Garbstore Clothing Fall/Winter 2011
The Garbstore was founded in 2008 by Ian Paley who has earned his favorable reputation in the modern menswear industry. The store is located in the heart of London’s Notting Hill close to Portabello Market, in an area that is considered one of the best places to shop for vintage pieces.
The Garbstore prides itself on choose quality over quantity, and can be thought of as a true independent clothing company standing up against the corporate giants of the modern fashion industry. Rather than buy up massed-produced clothing to turn around and resell for a quick profit, the company is all about taking heritage classics and making updates, using high quality Japanese fabrics for timeless work wear pieces that will last a lifetime.
They carry a mix of international and European fashion labels in addition to modern children’s collections. They also carry exclusive labels of casual and reproduction clothing and some are only offered via their online store. They stick closely to their philosophy of “Unfamiliar Vintage” an inspiration that draws from clothing produced after World War II and the idea that garments can represent the past with a modern update. For example, the jeans and trousers are all tailored to include fifties grip tape, tri-hole buttons and other vintage touches.
A great show piece is the Garbstore Langdale Parka. This 1960s inspired parka is heavy and warm. Made of Japanese chino cloth and lined with flannel, the coat has four button pockets on the front, a drawstring hood and waist with leather pulls, a wool-lined hood for extra insulation, reinforced elbows and a full zip front with buttoned storm flap. This Garbstore Jacket is a sturdy addition to any winter wardrobe with a pop of color and detailing that make it fashion forward.
For a casual feel check out the Garbstore Non Productive t shirt. Made of 200 gram premium single jersey cotton, this and other Garbstore t shirts echo the 1930s style of an American football training jersey. The graphic is whimsical and easily layered under pieces and Garbstore shirts such as the Garbstore Mechanic shirt, a cotton flannel button down.
Another great option for fall is the Garbstore CPO shirt from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection. It is a Mountain Providence 2nd layer Jersey top. The back sweat is plaid and made of 350 gram premium fleece. Roll the sleeves for a casual look and wear with jeans for an easy, pulled together outfit.
