Getting Your Business Marketing Strategies Right
Few subjects have been as discussed in business forums as marketing strategies have. And that probably comes as no surprise – if you do not get the market strategies right, it is only a matter of time before your revenue declines and you are out of business.
It would be foolhardy to think of marketing strategy as easy as a walk in the park. Yet, there are a number of ways you can execute market strategies that not only works but one that works consistently. How do you do that?
Four things:
1.Establish a distinct brand – Unless you are one of the few fortunate organizations that operate in a monopoly, your business has to take cognizance of its competition. But because it is highly likely that your competitors are advertising too, how do you set yourself apart? Branding!
A powerful brand transforms your business from an also-ran to a formidable competitor. It ensures you message is articulated clearly and consistently. Branding should in fact come before you execute any other business marketing strategies. Your brand should speak quality, distinction and dependability and build that impression in your target market.
2.Get your target market right – If your answer to the question ‘who is your target market’ is ‘everyone’, then you need to take a step back. Remember that every business, no matter how large, has finite financial resources at its disposal for advertising.
Marketing to a demographic that has no need for (and is unlikely to ever significantly purchase) your product is a waste of precious cash. Instead, you should zero in on the people and organizations your product speaks to directly so you can ensure every dollar that goes to the marketing earns more dollars in revenue a profit.
3.Compelling proposition – As stated earlier, everybody is marketing their product. So when a potential customer first comes across your proposition whether via a commercial, billboard, internet pop up, email newsletter or a sales representative, the question in each customer’s mind is “what is he offering me that is different from what the next guy said?” (next guy here being your competition). Unless you can set yourself apart, customers will simply see your product as just another one in a crowded shelf of alternatives.
4.Where are your raving fans? – The marketing activities your business engages in are no doubt crucial. But your business marketing strategies should have a compounding effect. Just as compound interest multiplies the return on a financial investment much faster than simple interest does over time, raving fans provide the compounding effect on your marketing efforts. Your raving fans are customers who are so wowed by your service that they can t help but recommend you to their family and friends.
It is a powerful endorsement that is much more effective than any other form market strategies because the source of praise is viewed as an objective person. But making raving fans out of your customers is not automatic – it is something you have to deliberately work at by providing service that exceeds what your competitors offer.
