How to Have Happy Feet

Women visit pain management clinics to find relief for a variety of aches and pain. The most frequent complaints are joint pain, muscle pain, headache and foot pain. Foot pain is usually taken lightly. People want pain relief for their blisters, ingrown nails and corns but they don’t think that they should be taken seriously. Worse, people don’t seem to think that preventing foot pain is as important as preventing any other bodily pain. This apparent disregard for foot pain may be caused by the misconception that nothing can be done to prevent it – that it comes naturally with age. The truth is, foot pain is not part of aging. Oftentimes though, foot pain only manifests during the later years. So what really causes foot pain? There are several reasons.

Wearing Bad Shoes

Women love wearing sexy stilettos and high-heeled shoes. Try telling a woman that stilettos are unhealthy for her feet. The reply that you’ll probably get is, “I know, but it’s worth it!” Perhaps it is impossible to ask a woman to stop wearing high-heeled shoes but she would save herself from so much pain later on if she wears them only at dinners and sit-down parties instead of using them everyday and even on long walks. Does it mean then that women should chuck out the rest of her stilettos and trade them for flip-flops? Of course not. Flip-flops and slippers are just as bad as stilettos. They offer absolutely no support for the arch of the feet which will eventually lead to foot damage and pain. Again, it is unlikely for a flip-flop lover to give them up but her feet would be happier if she wears them less.

One should only wear shoes that are suitable for a particular activity. For long walks, there are walking shoes. In sports activities, one should only wear athletic shoes. The right kind of footwear provides the right kind of support feet need in a given activity.

Poor Foot Hygiene

Pamper your feet and make sure it is well-moisturized all the time. Dry and cracked heels and toes are easy prey for bacteria and infections. It is also importantly to regularly trim your toenails. Long toenails cause ingrown nails which are very painful. Also avoid going barefoot. Shoes protect feet from coming in contact with bacteria, fungi and dirt. Walking around barefoot will expose your feet and make them susceptible to infections and other skin diseases. Having no socks or shoes on will also increase the chances of getting feet injury like cuts and wounds.

Ignoring Changes

Feet change as they age. Always be on the lookout for changes in your feet. As you grow older, your soles will start to lose its natural cushions or fat pads. When this happens, look for shoes that provide more cushioning and support. For people who are suffering from arthritis, toes may become more bent or contracted. This condition calls for shoes that can give more comfort.

Give your feet the proper treatment they deserve and spare yourself from unnecessary pain.
