How to Plan a Fitness Program
It\’s understandable if you are fed up with being unfit. There\’s no fun in being out of breath when you climb the stairs or carry the shopping. It\’s embarrassing if you can\’t keep up with hubby or the kids. Being unfit hurts your self-worth.
If you want to change your life then start by learning good habits. If you improve your level of fitness you will have more energy, more endurance, clearer thoughts and even sleep better.
Make it as easy as possible for yourself by sticking to a program. No matter how keen you are to get started, do not rush into exercising without thought and planning. A lot of people start by overdoing physical exercise. If you are unfit this is dangerous because you can damage your muscles and overstrain your heart.
You must know what your fitness level is. It\’s not good enough to just know you are very unfit. You need to be more accurate.
– It is necessary to know what your pulse rate is prior to and after walking about 1.6 km. You must also time how long it took you.
– Sit on the floor with straight legs and see how far you can reach.
– Count the number of push-ups you can do at a time (if any).
So many of us can\’t wait to get started but the reality is it\’s hard. If you are unfit then physical exercise is a huge challenge. To start with you are going to struggle with breathing and your muscles are going to ache. You are going to want to give up. This is normal. However, keep going. Regular exercise will build up your stamina and strength.
Once you have a good assessment of your level of fitness you can work out a program that suits you. It is very important to have a workout routine that balances muscle training and stamina training.
You don\’t have to exercise vigorously and you don\’t need a trainer screaming at you to keep up. You can start slowly and stop when you can\’t go on as long as you do a little more over a reasonable time period to improve.
We all have busy lives and it\’s not always easy finding time to do physical exercise. Think constructively and combine walking on the treadmill with watching your favorite soapie or the news. A stationary cycle allows you time to read.
Most people do give up when their joints and muscles start aching. Too much pain is an indication you have worked out for too long or too zealously. To prevent this from happening, your program must allow you to have rest days. Rest days allow your joints to recover and your muscles to build up. Many people are unaware that rest days are when the muscles build the most.
By keeping to a simple exercise program you will become fit and be able to keep up with hubby and the kids. There is no doubt that regular exercise carried out in a sensible manner improves your wellbeing.
