Improve Vertical

In many sports, particularly in basketball, volleyball and football, leaping or jumping higher is a very important thing. It is very necessary that athletes know how to improve vertical leaps or jumps. Constant trainings and exercise is a must.

But what exactly is a vertical jump or vertical leap? Vertical jump is the action of moving to a highest possible height in the air from the ground vertically with the use of the person’s own body.

There are two kinds of vertical jumps. The standing vertical jump is where the person jumps as high as he can from one area vertically and lands on the same area. The running vertical jump, on the other hand, involves running before executing the jump. The running aids in adding more “flight” power to the jump.

There are several factors that need to be considered in determining the height of a vertical leap or jump. Muscles and tendons composition, bone structure, muscles strength and power, body mass index or height and weight proportion, are some contributors. These contributors help improve vertical.

Muscles and tendons are the key factors that allow you to make a jump or leap. Your muscles and tendons will contract and then spring allowing you to jump. They also absorb the impact when you hit the ground. If their composition is weak, the athlete will not be successful in jumping higher.

Bone structure plays an important role too. Your bones have to be strong when you do vertical jumps. Otherwise, this activity can be very dangerous. The trainings and exercises involve in this is strenuous and very physical. If not done right you may and will easily break a bone or two.

Body mass index (BMI) or the height and weight proportion contributes too. When you are overweight and short, this task can be very difficult to do. More trainings and exercises will be required from you. When you are very tall yet very thin, jumping higher may seem easier but do not be tricked by your thoughts. Being very thin means something somewhere in your body is just waiting for the right time to snap or break.

With constant exercises, trainings, and workouts, you will be able to strengthen these muscles and tendons, strengthen your bones, and release more energy and power that will propel you to greater heights in the air when you leap.

Improve your vertical by building strength in your leg muscles and tendons doing squats and jump rope. Strong muscles and tendons mean more power and explosiveness.

Train your body to be more flexible. Flexibility means quick and fast responsiveness.

Rest and heal. Strenuous exercises and trainings are physically demanding and stressful. Allow your body to rest as much as you can. Everything in excess is bad for you, excessive trainings are no exception.

Always bear in mind that your hereditary traits somehow govern your physiology. If you are not eating, resting and training right, there is nothing you can do to achieve your goal and improve vertical leaps and jump higher.
