LRG stands for Lifted Research Group. This was formed in 1999. Robert Wright and Jonas Bevacqua worked together to form this brand. Basically LRG is a company that focuses on designing clothes that have a hip hop style. These clothes were aimed for people who follow the hip hop culture a lot and for skateboarders as well as those who belong to other underground cultures. Other brands focus on just one particular kind of lifestyle or market whereas LRG expands its horizons and designs clothes for people belonging to any kind of subculture.

The brand was formed by 2 skateboarders whose names have been mentioned earlier on in this article. These two stake boarders got in touch when they were working on hip hop music together. Wright has experience in designing since he was already a designer. He had worked with a number of labels such as O’Neill and Quiksilver. Bevacqua came up with the logo for the brand and the idea of the company as well. They started off on a small scale with stickers and samples. They used capital from their friend and family and started off this business. Little did they know that this business would grow as large and popular as it is today!

LRG first displayed their clothing and designs in a booth in Sand Diego at an expo. The stall was so popular that the very same day they ended up selling more than 300 items of clothing including pants, hoodies, and shirts. LRG clothing was turning into a success. LRG had focused on different people’s lifestyles and their likes. They catered to hip hoppers and skateboarders and tried to understand what each one liked. They kept their interests in mind since they both knew about music and skateboarding as well. When LRG clothing started off, they had very low sales but eventually the number of sales they had started to expand and by the year 2002 LRG clothing found that they were a profitable and successful company.

LRG clothing then decided to expand into women’s clothing as well. They launched Luxirie, a line that focused on providing clothes for women as well. They focused on women who belonged to the age group of 18-30. The line was officially launched in 2006, even though it had started off on small scale a year before that. LRG clothing also formed a partnership with T-mobile for a limited edition Smartphone which was known as Sidekick III. This shoes that LRG clothing didn’t just was to stay in the clothing business but it was looking to diversify and expand as well. Other ventures included partnerships with companies which led to the creation of the LRG Hayabusa motorcycle as well as a casing for the iPhone which was exclusive and carried the LRG logo on it.

The company slowly experienced an increase in its popularity, so much so that they had recorded sales of up to $150 million in 2007. The brand of LRG clothing was not only popular with the average person, but celebrities including Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and other popular figures were seen carrying and promoting LRG clothing.

LRG clothing is a company that seems to want to do much more than clothing, even though the name suggests otherwise. Their previous partnerships and ventures indicated how they had intentions to diversify into other areas. They are most likely going to continue with this scheme of partnerships and coming up with limited edition items.
