Manage Acne Naturally
Most people have suffered the embarrassment and discomfort of acne from time to time. Most acnes are caused by the sebaceous glands. These glands secrete oil, and are present most noticeably on the face, neck and on the back. The sebaceous glands can often get clogged with the oil they produce, resulting in pimples.
There are a number of different types of acne, but the type most commonly found is called “acne vulgaris”, which usually is the bane of every teenager’s existence.
While the precise cause is unknown, there are certain factors that can contribute to acne. One contributor is heredity, which influences the formation of oil and androgens. Other factors contributing to the problem of acne are allergies and stress. There are certain drugs, as well, which can cause types of acne besides acne vulgaris. Some nutritional deficiencies and liver dysfunction cause other forms of acne, as does exposure to pollutants from the atmosphere and industries. Facial makeup and the menses also will cause acne to be a problem.
The skin is actually considered a vital organ in the medical profession, and as such has an important function as a sort of 3rd kidney in ridding the body of toxins in the system. The process of sweating not only cools the body in a type of evaporative cooling, it also excretes toxins that the liver and kidneys have not discharged. As these toxins exit the body through the pores of the skin, they can cause disruptions to the health of the pores.
Natural Treatments
Most treatments, whether natural, over the counter, or prescribed, take at least 2 to 4 weeks to be fully effective. And, sometimes the condition seems to get a little worse, until all of the toxins are drawn out of the pores and all of the dead skin is exfoliated.
White vinegar can be very effective in cleansing the face and neck area, and acts as a bactericide, as well. Moisten a cotton ball with white vinegar (diluted, if necessary) and swab the affected area. After letting it sit for about 10 minutes, gently wash it off with cool water. Citrus juice, such as that of a fresh squeezed lemon, will act as a natural exfoliant, too. Use it as you would the white vinegar. If the vinegar or citrus juice sting when you apply them, it’s ok to dilute them with water.
Another way to battle acne is to maintain a healthy diet. When you drink more water, the body has a vessel through which to flush toxins rather than through the skin. Proper diet is also important, because the good nutrition will reduce toxins in your body.
Supplements are also vital to fighting acne. Most daily diets are woefully inadequate in minerals and vitamins. By adding Echinacea to your supplement, or Oregon grape, you can boost your immune system, which will help your body fight bacteria that often causes acne. Dandelion, red clover, and burdock help the liver clear itself of toxins, preventing overload. And, finally, colon cleanse tablets will help rid your body of toxins that cause acne.
