People who work on roofs, buildings, bridges, and other high places need to be protected in case they slip and fall. Horizontal lifeline devices are similar to the ladder safety system in that a harness is worn and a line is attached to a cable. The difference is that the cable is stretched horizontally across a specific stretch of a work zone space and there is not a locking mechanism to stop the fall. Here the safety line is of a very limited length and that is what will stop a worker from continuing their descent.

Fully body harnesses are wrapped around the shoulders, waist, chest, and under the legs and inner thighs to give total harness protection. These are attached to climbing ropes where a worker can swing freely from spot to spot, and where setting a ladder or scaffold is too time consuming to get a quick task completed.

Depending on the type of work one does and the conditions that are doing that work under will most often decide the best items to use.
