Ready For a Replacement Heat Pump?

You may not yet know when to replace your heat pump, but if you have been using the same one for the last few decades, heat pump repair may be imminent. There are plenty of things you can do to ensure that your heat pump stays in working order but in order to keep it that way, you need to add it to your list of home maintenance items, which should already include duct cleaning and termite inspection. Many people who think their pump needs replacement may be surprised to learn it may only need a bit of repair work. If you have noticed the pump is no longer living up to expectations or working as well as it used to, something is obviously amiss.

If you know your pump to be very old, keep a watchful eye on it. It may not be giving you any trouble just yet but that does not mean it is not on the verge of doing so. A pump that is not giving anyone any trouble is a bit more difficult to assess, but if you know that it is been put to the task for decades then it may be time for a change. In fact, if you know that it is a mere decade old you may want to think about having it replaced before it gives out on you.

A new unit will save you money overall as newer models are built to be more efficient though it may cost you a bit to have it installed. Newer heating pumps are meant to lower heating and cooling costs, and it is worth replacing a pump which is known to be at least 15 years old, whether the old pump seems to be in working condition or not.

Another reason to have the pump look at is if the heating or cooling in the house seems to be uneven. This issue may be caused by duct problems or improper installation, and is best looked into by a professional, who will be able to scope the entire system and determine where the problem lies. Unfortunately, this trouble most often means that you will need to replace the pump or fortunately depending upon how you look at it; buying a new pump likely lower your electricity bills quite a bit.

If your pump seems to be working fine, double check by examining the monthly electric bills, and try to go back as far as possible. Does the amount seem to be even over time? You will of course, want to factor in the fact that we use more air conditioning in the summer and more heat in the winter. If the answer is no, you will want to have your heating pump replaced. If you notice that the bills have been creeping up each month, this problem will only worsen until the pump can be replaced. If you continue to use the old pump, you will be wasting a great deal of energy each month in addition to all of the money you will be losing.
