Start With the Basics
It is necessary to understand that fitness is a benefit of good health. There are many people who are unfit due to lifestyle choices. They remain unfit and unhealthy because they don\’t know how to improve their fitness because they\’ve never been taught.
The most basic necessity for achieving fitness and good health is to have a program. Having a program means you work according to a given list. Many people are put off by the thought of a program because it sounds complicated.
Fortunately, getting fit need not be complicated. The most basic program is all that\’s needed to improve health. By doing a moderate amount of physical exercise on a regular basis it will bring down the risk of disease, assist in weight loss and develop balance and co-ordination.
A simple program to improve your fitness should be divided into two main areas. You should do strength training twice a week and aerobics training. Aerobic training should be either seventy five minutes of brisk aerobic exercise or one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate aerobic exercise every week.
There are many people who are both unfit and overweight. It is advisable to do an aerobic exercise like walking three times a week before embarking on a program of specific weight training and aerobic workouts. Walking sessions of thirty minutes three times a week will allow your heart and muscles to build up stamina before moving on to your program.
One of the objectives of following a basic fitness program is to set goals. Achieving small goals over a sensible time period keeps you motivated because you actually see how you improve. It is helpful to work out with a friend, but a program must suit your unique fitness requirements – everybody is different.
Another objective of having a fitness program is to teach you how to maintain your level of fitness. Without a program to stick to it is very easy to fall back into old habits. There simply is no way to be fit without making your program a habit.
A fitness program should be flexible. For example, you could do weight training at home by yourself. If you find exercising boring then choose aerobic workouts that make you part of a group. Aerobic exercises work the muscles, heart and lungs and build up stamina. Examples of such exercises are walking, running, cycling, swimming and dancing. Recently, aerobic exercise classes complete with eighties music and leg warmers have made a comeback.
Anybody of any age, gender or weight can become fit and maintain fitness. It is advisable to start slow and build up. However, if you are carrying excess weight, have been unfit for a long period of time or are aware of any health conditions, seek clearance from your doctor before starting any exercise program.
Knowledge about fitness and nutrition is constantly being updated as research is done on a regular basis. With the right advice and motivation, anybody can improve their fitness and health by starting with a very basic program.
