The Style of Impressionist Paintings
There is nothing quite like Impressionist paintings. The use of color, the texture, and way they seem to stand out when compared to other styles is what makes them so sought after.
People all over the world collect these pictures. It doesn’t matter if a person is into art or not, everyone knows a few famous names of the artists of these wonderful Impressionist paintings.
Monet and Van Gough are probably the two most well known artists from this era. When this style of art work came around, it forever changed the art world.
In the 19th century, some artists from Paris started this movement. Their artwork became really popular in the independent exhibitions in the later 1800’s.
One of these pieces was well liked by an art critic. The picture was called “Impression, Sunrise”. The critic used the name of the piece when referring to this particular style.
For this reason, Claude Monet is called the father of Impressionism. Impressionist paintings have certain characteristics that make it distinctive. The artists use small and light brush strokes.
They focus on the lighting in the picture and how it changes. Many of the artists did pieces that depicted a field or other kinds of landscapes. They usually had a person standing in it, which was usually a woman.
One artist who loved using the idea of a woman or child standing in a beautiful landscape was Renoir. Another unique method Renoir used was not using the color black in the paintings.
The images were very colorful, and black was not used to dull it down any. Renoir used very bright and vibrant colors. This became a popular theme among all Impressionist paintings.
That is one of the reasons that people from all over love this style of art. It does not have any dark colors that represent sadness or depression. These art pieces will lighten anyone’s mood.
Monet liked painting pictures of one particular place, but at different times during the day; Sunrise to sunset and everything in between. This made the use of light a very important factor.
People just love how Monet did this in his art. Although it was the same subject, it seemed to be an entirely different picture. This, among many other reasons, is why Monet is the most admired artist to come out of this era.
There are other artists, like Degas, who liked to paint subject matter like horses, regular people, and ballerinas. Everyone has their own opinions. There are some that do not even like this style of art.
That is what makes art so fascinating. The fact that someone could pay millions of dollars for a picture while others shake their heads in disgust is simply outstanding.
Impressionist paintings, for the most part, fetch a pretty penny. Work done by Monet, Degas, and Van Gough are the ones that can cost in the millions of dollars range.
Today, people love to purchase replicates of these breathtaking paintings from an era that is gone but never forgotten. They can brighten up any room in a house. These pictures will become the conversation pieces for any event held at home.
