Use Common Sense When Trying Juice Recipes For Fasting

Using a fruit or vegetable juice recipe for fasting might be all right once in a while for a short time period such as three days to a maximum of five days, but it should never be extended longer than that and not used excessively or your health will suffer. The juice fast is used mainly for two reasons, to lose weight fast or as a detox to rid the body of harmful accumulated toxins from a processed food or fast food diet.

A fast, if you\’ve never been on one before, can produce weakness, dizziness, stomach cramps, constipation and even heart palpitations. If you have any medical conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes or an eating disorder such as anorexia or are pregnant or are on medications, you need to consult with your physician first. Also remember to brush your teeth regularly after drinking the juices, especially the fruit juices, as the natural sugars, while they can easily be assimilated by your digestive tract, it is not the best thing for your teeth to be bathing in them all day, as this will eat away at the enamel of the teeth leading to tooth decay.

If you start with a vegetable juice fast for detoxing the body, the dark leafy green vegetables are perfect for the job, they help with the process of elimination and in addition they adhere to many of the heavy metals in the environment that we breathe in from our air polluted by motorized vehicles and industry, drink from our water supply which is not untainted and eat from heavily insecticide and pesticide sprayed produce. The leafy greens such as kale, spinach, collard greens, mustard greens and broccoli especially the leaves will help flush them out of the body. Needless to say you will have to use organically grown produce for the detox fast or you\’ll just be wasting your time.

A simple recipe to start uses one cucumber, four stalks of celery, one cup of spinach and one cup of kale. If the cucumber is not enough to over power the taste of the kale and spinach, add an apple or even a peeled lemon.

Another basic cleansing recipe uses an apple, half a dozen carrots and a lemon. Season with cinnamon or ginger. Always remember when on a detox cleanse, it is important to drink plenty of water to help flush thoroughly flush out the system.

How much juice should you drink each day? Usually three to four eight ounce glasses is sufficient, you don\’t need to ingest more than that and some people may drink less. Space them out evenly through the day.

Here is another juice fast recipe. One tomato, one cucumber, three broccoli crowns, and enough wheat grass to make one ounce of wheatgrass juice or use the wheatgrass juice from the health food store. The wheatgrass acts as a super detox agent and provides protein to the drink as well.

However you decide to proceed with the fast, use common sense and discontinue if there is any serious discomfort.
