What Should Be Included in Your Fitness Plan?

It can really be confusing if you are just starting out looking for fitness equipment because there are so many options available. There are the old standby machines that everyone knows about but there is also a lot of specialized equipment too. Should you get a treadmill or an elliptical machine? How about Olympic plates or standard plates for your barbell? Should you try to find a treadmill sale or should you buy one that is brand new?

Actually, the very first thing that you have to do is decide what the focus of your training is going to be. There are three different types of exercise that you can do. These are strength training, aerobic exercise or flexibility training. The type of training that you decide to focus on should be based upon the reason that you are starting a workout plan. If you are trying to get better at a particular sport, you should think about what the most important physical components of that sport are. Football is probably better suited to strength training, while endurance is more important in soccer. If you are a gymnast, flexibility is probably something you should focus on.

Another piece of criteria that you can use to decide how to focus your workouts is to look at the area that you are the weakest in. It may be in your best interest to focus on that area until it becomes as strong as the other areas. Most people make the mistake of only working on the areas that are already familiar with. This is because people like to do things that they are good at more than things that they are not good at. If something is your strength, it means you probably like to do it more than the things you are not good at. A great way to improve your performance is to focus on your weak areas.

Of course, the perfect work out program encompasses elements of all three of these types of workouts. In fact, focusing too much on any one of those can actually make you susceptible to injury if you go overboard. The decision that you have to make is exactly how to split up your training. Should you spend 33% of your time on each area or should you do one activity for 50% of the time and split the other two? Again, this depends upon what you really want to improve. When many people start out on their new exercise they make the mistake of thinking that they need to address each of the three components in every workout session. However, that is not true.

Part of the part of building muscle is breaking down the muscle. This means that if you are doing any kind of heavy training, you should not do the same thing two days in a row. If you do strength training on Monday, then on Tuesday you should either focus on flexibility or aerobic work. The best workout plan includes pieces of all three types of exercises.
