2 Important Factors in Knowing the Cause of Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a conditioned that is manifested by having scaly dry skin that sometimes develops into plaques. Though the exact Psoriasis Cause is not yet known and understood, certain factors can either trigger or contribute in the development of psoriasis to a person. However, understand the factors well will help you to battle this skin disease in better way.
We have divided these factors into two categories: (1) Internal Factors and (2) External Factors.
Internal Factors
We can only determine two internal factors that are believed to contribute in the development of Psoriasis. These internal factors are:
1. Immune System Defects- according to recent studies and research, it is believed that psoriasis is thought to be caused by having an abnormality in the person’s immune system. Normally in this system, T-cell which is a type of white blood cell, acts as an antibody which functions as the body’s protection against diseases and infections. Scientist believed that in patients with psoriasis, their immune system acts abnormally. T cells abnormally acts by triggering inflammation in the skin which causes the skin cell to reproduce excessively that results to having flakes in the skin.
2. Heredity and Genetics – according to research, psoriasis is inherited in 33% cases. Some of the persons who have psoriasis have either parent or grandparents who were also affected with this condition. A 10% chance is believed that a person might get the condition if one parent is affected. If both parents has the condition, the chances of getting the condition is increased into a 30% chance.
External Factors
It is also believed that certain factors can trigger the development of psoriasis to a person. External Factors for Psoriasis Cause are the following:
1. Stress – it is probably one of the most common factors that could trigger psoriasis. It is believed that mind and body plays a vital role in order to keep our body healthy. Psychological stress due to certain situations can lower down a person’s immune system. Physical stress like hard work and over activity could also lower a person’s immune system.
2. Climate- people who are exposed to cold climates are more prone to develop the disease. Cold environment usually dries out the skin, increasing the chances of the disease to develop.
3. Drugs or Medications – certain drugs have been found out to contribute in triggering psoriasis. Drugs such as those that are used to treat high blood pressure, malaria, bipolar disorder and heart arrhythmias can trigger development of psoriasis.
4. Infections – systemic and dermatological infections are known to trigger the start of psoriasis or could worsen the condition. Systemic infections such as those that affect the upper respiratory like streptococcal pharyngitis, and HIV or human immunodeficiency virus are associated to trigger psoriasis.
5. Physical Trauma – cuts, burns, bumps, bruises, tattoos, vaccinations and other things that causes trauma to the skin are believed to trigger the symptoms of psoriasis.
6. Hormone changes- the prognosis of the condition may differ to persons with hormonal changes. During menopause and puberty, the frequency of the disease increases.
