5 Tips in Extending the Life of a Bed

Many people invest on their beds. This home furniture is not only there for aesthetic purposes. As it is for relaxation and rest, investing on a good bed and mattress is a wise choice.

Take care of the edge of the mattress. This can be easily done by preventing any weight from pushing the edge of the mattress down. Remember that your mattress is made up of wires. And these wires are concentrated on the edges to keep the shape of the mattress. Any damage to the wires can also damage the whole shape and quality of the mattress. Do not put heavy objects on top of your bed. Likewise, do not sit on the edge. When you are fixing yourself in your bedroom and you need some place to sit on, make sure that you have a chair nearby.

Use a cover. Your bed should have a good cover. But, you should not go for just any other type of cover. A cover that you can zip up will be the best. For those who like to eat or drink while on bed, you can effectively protect your bed with these covers. Apart from that, the mattress is well protected from dust and mites. For better protection, have those that have close to waterproof features. They might not totally protect against liquid spills but they can surely help.

Avoid spills. Ultimately, if you do not want to avoid spilling your drinks on your bed, do not drink anything while you are on it. Prevention will be your most effective action.

Rotate the mattress. This task is so that you will not have dips on the mattress. Keep in mind that from time to time you have to rotate it. An ideal frequency will for once to twice a month. This can be more specifically applied to new mattresses. For those who own double sided ones, you can flip it. This can be more beneficial in preventing unevenness than what rotating can give.

Proper bed support. The mattress should be properly supported. If you have a platform bed, there should be central support. This is especially need for beds with wide dimensions. The size of the bed will make it easily sag in the middle. But with the presence of an adequate support, such dips will be avoided.

No jumping allowed. For those who have kids, they should instruct their kids not to play or jump on the bed. Jumping can easily damage the wires of the mattress. In the long run, it will not have that recoil that it has when it was still new. Sometimes, the mattress is not the only part that is damaged. When a heavy person jumps repeatedly on it, you can even have problems on the bed’s support.

Proper cleaning. For the bed and its support, removing debris by wiping the area might already suffice. For the mattress, there might be a need to vacuum it. Using chemical cleaners will not do any good to the interior.
