A Review of Alec Bradley Select Cabinet Reserve
Alec Bradley SCR (or Select Cabinet Reserve) is a bold cigar that uses premium Central American leaves. They come in five sizes: the Robusto at 5 by 50, the Corona at 5 1/2 by 42, the Gran Robusto at 5 1/2 by 60, the Torpedo at 6 ⅛ by 52, and the Churchill at 7 by 48.
Reviewers of the Robusto usually begin by noting that it has a Honduran Trojes wrapper, Honduran and Nicaraguan filler, and Indonesian binder. This medium-strength stick has some veining on a beautiful wrapper with hard to find seams.
The colorful oversized band is marked with the label’s initials on it, while a second band on the foot spells the name out. The draw from the unlit Alec Bradley SCR delivers luscious fruity notes reminiscent of gingered apricots.
After igniting with a handy torch lighter, the flavor profile quickly moves towards that of coffee and graham crackers in the first third of this smoke. As smokers continue their journey into the second third, the coffee evolves through a touch of mocha into a luscious chocolaty flavor.
At this point, a brief staccato of spiciness adds a touch of flair that takes this profile into the realm of delicious complexity. Entering the final third, cinnamon and mocha notes became apparent, until it ultimately finishes with a second chorus of coffee flavors.
Though still scrumptious, smokers of the Corona vitola note the same fillers and binders as the Tempus, but often give its Honduran wrapper credit for its distinctiveness. Like other Alec Bradley offerings the presentation and appearance of this stick is usually flawless.
Occasional reports of light color flaws and minimal veins can be found, however they are nearly always so minor as to be indistinguishable in the presence of this smoke’s fine qualities. Overall, the construction of these cigars is top-notch-what you would usually expect of a much pricier smoke.
Pre-light, a delectable caramel scent wafts from the wrapper, while a sweeter, sugary smell rises from the foot. After lighting, an unusual mix of nuts and pepper flavors are presented, though the pepper spice disappears in the middle of the cigar, while the nutty flavor is dominant to the finish.
Some aficionados have also suggested the presence of rich leather and coffee flavors in the profile of this wonderfully multifaceted profile. Nearly all who have experienced this entry in the Alec Bradley SCR felt it was worth at least the price they had paid.
The Gran Robusto vitola is widely regarded for its triple cap. The wrapper has the light sheen of oil that marks premium cigars and only a few tiny imperfections. This stick is nearly always easy to light produces intensely satisfying clouds of smoke.
Upon lighting, the early portion of this stick exhibits a nutty and caramel like sweet flavor. The burn is reputedly good, but the depth of great flavors is considered one of this its strengths.
This line of smokes is definitely a must-have for every humidor. Visit our cigar store today to fill yours.
