All About Hot Tubs And Their Use Yesterday And Today

In the past, natural hot tubs came in the form of a spring full of hot water out in the forest. These were used by animals as well as people, in some cases. On a cold, cold afternoon, there was never a better place to spend time and warm up the old bones than in a pool of steamy water. Exiting that warm spot may have been difficult, but animals had their furry coats and thick hides. People just had to plan ahead and have something warm to step into.

The old steel free-standing tub in the western days of America, or the Japanese wooden ones, were among the first of their kind to be popular. Bathing in a cold stream was not the most comfortable and at the end of a dusty, dirty cattle drive, cowboys enjoyed soaking in bubbly, fragrant, almost blistering hot water. The samurai felt the same way, but for different reasons. They may have been swinging their swords in the protection of their feudal Lord, and need to relax.

As years flew by, the outhouse gave way to more modern indoor plumbing, including a bathtub, connected to pipes of a home plumbing system. No longer would someone have to break their back hauling in buckets full of water to be heated and poured into a large body-sized vessel. Soaking the body, in very hot water to relax away the days\’ dirt and stress, was made so much easier for folks.

With this addition to the home, simply adding water-spraying jets to a mat placed into the tub, was an easy jump. Using that idea as a starting point, developers thought to make holes for these jets in the side of the tub. They called it a whirlpool tub. The combination of very warm water and fast-moving water from spouts under the surface, made bath time popular with kids and adults alike.

It was not long before the medical profession saw the advantages of using tanks of hot water to treat certain agonies and injuries of their patients. Most often, smaller than a full sized tub, these vats were just big enough for a person to sit in and had a small seat to make that comfortable. It did a lot to relax tight muscles and additionally, was used to speed the healing process in particularly difficult cases. It was added therapeutically, along with other intensive hands-on treatment by physical therapists.

Public pools did not see the advantage of providing steamy H2O pools to their already popular heated or unheated natatoriums. Everyone would have wanted to be in it all of the time.

The popularity of tanks filled with roasting aqua pura was realized by the hotel industry not long after swimming pools became standard issue as one of their amenities. Guests were offered the use of these receptacles after a hard day of traveling and loved it.

The spa world joined the ranks of those other entities using hot tubs to please their customers or clients. It seemed the ultimate solution to families was to enjoy the tub while traveling, and be sure to install one in their home.
