So if you were able to get your website ranked #1 for the specific keyword phrase in our example, you can expect to get 42% of the traffic or 75 visitors/day to your website.

When you are selecting your keyword phrases to target, if the No. 1 ranked website for a particular keyword phrase gets less than 50 visitors/day, You really shouldn\’t target the keyword phrase.

Now your list of keyword phrases should be much smaller. The next thing to consider is your level of competition.

7. The number number of backlinks to the Ranked Domain

8. The total number number of Educational and Government backlinks

9. Does the Domain have a DMOZ listing?

10. Is the Domain listed on the Yahoo! Directory

11. Where does the keyword phrase appear on the competitors domain?

Okay, now your list should be even smaller. We have one more thing to examine.

If you Rank #1, what is that worth in dollars?

Here is the simple formula we use to help us determine what a top ranking is really worth. To use this formula, you must first figure out how much it costs to get the top Google Adwords Ad for the keyword phrase and how many visitors to expect once you acquire a #1 ranking.

SEO Keyword Value = Traffiic x Adwords Ad Cost

In our example, we estimated a keyword would deliver approximately 75 visitors per day. If the top Google Adwords Ad costs $2 per visitor, then the SEO Keyword Value for the keyword phrase is $2 x 75 web visitors. So the SEO Value for the particular keyword phrase is $150/day or $4,500 per month.

When analyzing a particular keyword, if the potential keyword has a SEO Keyword Value of as less than $50/Day, you probably would be better off not targetig it.

Make sure you understand the traffic estimates, your competition, and the SEO Value of the keyword phrases and you will be on your way to greater success with your SEO and Internet Marketing Programs.
