Extras That Are Indispensable
Extra items are never to be neglected while buying computers and peripheral appliances. Together with computing devices you need to buy printers, cables, scanners, external drives, and storage devices. Without these items you have an incomplete computational setup and you might have to run after jobbers to get your work done in totality.
Printers – After buying a computer it is natural to buy a printing device and an UPS. Printers are output devices that help you to take out printed copies of letters, quotations, reports, and any such documents. Printers range in type and price allowing you to choose the exact one for your needs. Dot matrix printers (DMP), line printers, ink jet printers and laser printers are the usual categories of printer required for regular office or home use.
Dot matrix printers and line printers are primarily used is offices for regular print outs. As these perform at very high speeds they are suitable for bulk jobs where quality is not much of a concern. Laser printers are used for high quality jobs and these machines work on similar principle as a photocopying machine. Drum units, transfer rollers, and imaging units are used to reproduce the perfect image.
In case your printing requirement is limited it is worthy to spend on an ink jet printer rather than a laser one. Price-wise these are economical as compared to laser varieties though the images might not be that sharp. This is caused by the use of colored inks which have a tendency to smudge if printed surface is not of superior quality. Ink cartridges are the chief consumables used in ink jet printers, while for laser printers it is toner cartridges.
Imaging devices – Scanner is an imaging device that we use for computers. Other imaging appliances include cameras, DVDs, CDs, and BRDs (blu ray disks).
Memory cards – These external storage devices are extensively used for storing digital data from items such as laptops, cameras, MP3 players, cellular phones, and games consoles. These are small, convenient to store and carry, and have the capability of storing data even without power backup.
External storage devices – External storage devices allow keeping a backup of all your systems data in a secured place. Current generation desktops and laptops are integrated with external drive ports that allow easy plugging in. Hard disk drives, optical disk drives, and DVDs could all be connected externally to your computing devices.
Cables – Cables are inseparable extras for any computer network. Cables are provided with CPU unit, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and any other peripheral devices you might buy. In addition, cables are required for setting up a computer network for your office or home. Category 5, and Category 5e (enhanced) are the cable types that are used commonly for laying of local area network. For wide area computer networking optical fibers are the based option. These are durable, fast, and prevent lass of data. When joining two devices to a network you use patch cables which are specially cut and joined. Cables used in networking could also be stranded or solid core depending upon the distance and exact requirement. Solid cores are preferred for permanent installations while stranded for wall port connections.
