How a Sprint Booster Works in a Vehicle
A lot of effort is put into improving the performance of motor vehicles. Changes are made to various mechanisms in an attempt to increase the car\’s speed or power. The sprint booster is one gadget that was developed to reduce the engine\’s response time when the gas pedal is stepped on. Cars coming straight from the manufacturers have a slightly delayed response which is unpleasant to some people.
Modern cars have an electronic gas pedal. The pedal has a way of translating how much force is applied on it, to how much gas is supplied into the engine. In a normal car, this translation is initially delayed for a short duration which makes it seem slower to pick speed. All a sprint booster does is to reduce this time, so the response feels a little quicker than usual. It makes the car\’s acceleration start sooner than that of a car without it.
Installation of the gadget is quick and many people can do it themselves. No specialized knowledge is required. The only drawback is having to squeeze oneself below the dashboard to reach the pedal assembly. This device is plugged in line with the cable from the on board computer. The cable is unplugged and the gadget is pushed into the cable\’s socket. Then it is reconnected to the assembly. In short, this device should sit between the cable\’s connector and the pedal assembly connector.
Most cars that use the drive by wire technology can use this device. It does not affect any other operations since all it does is to change the engine throttle response time. As a result, the vehicle reaches higher revolutions faster. This results in shorter intervals between gear changes making it able to reach higher speeds faster.
Two models have been produced to cater for different vehicle types. One is meant for manually operated gearshifts while the other is made for automatic gearshift cars. A separate switch is included for choosing the desired mode. Three modes are available, which are OFF, sport and racing. This means the device can be turned off, or used in any of the two active modes.
A supplied trailing cable is used to attach the mode selector switch to the gadget. The switch can therefore be located at the most convenient place for the driver. It is important to install it in a place that is easy to reach and as well as visible. The driver can tell the position of the switch by use of two lights, a red and a green one. The green light is ON in sport mode while red signifies racing mode.
Contrary to what many people think, this device does not increase the power in a car. Neither does it increase the speed beyond what is possible without it installed. The total horsepower of a vehicle is also not changed. What changes is the engine\’s response, in relation to how the gas pedal is operated. A car with less power will not gain more power when this device is installed.
Use of the sprint booster changes the responsiveness of a vehicle when the gas pedal is operated. By having the fuel get to the engine sooner, motion is attained faster. This reduces the noticeable but short delay that is present in a normal car. The booster can be installed or removed with ease at any time without any negative effects.
