How to Make Money Online in 2012

If you are looking to use the Internet to make money in 2012, you are going to have to do things a little bit differently than you would have in the past. The Internet is changing thanks to the advent of social sites like Facebook, StumbleUpon and Twitter. Now these sites have been around for several years now but their overall effect is really being seen just recently.

If you want to get the word out about your product or service online you are going to have to have a social presence. You don\’t just need to have a Facebook fan page, but you should also be thinking about integrating multiple social networks, social media and bookmarking sites into your companies blog. This is not difficult to do if you are using a content management system such as WordPress. WordPress has tons of plug-ins available to you for free where you can utilize most of the major social networks to your advantage.

Bill Gates coined the phrase \”content is King\” several years back and that is still very much the case today. Rather than having a traditional linking strategy however, you need to have a social media linking strategy in place. Google and the other major search engines are giving more and more relevance to websites that have a current standing in the social networks. Within the year, your site\’s rank may depend more upon the followers that you have, rather than the back links that are coming into it.

This has been a transition that has taken place over the past several years and it is definitely picking up steam. Part of successfully marketing your business on the Internet today is thinking about what the future of the Internet might look like. An example would be to ask yourself the question why Google has gone to such lengths as to map the entire planet the way that has? Since Google is somewhat geo-targeted, especially when it comes to products and services offered by small business, you need to think seriously about your Google business listing and how to optimize it as much as possible. There\’s a lot of valuable information out there on the Internet for free concerning this and other issues.

Having a dominant social presence will also drive traffic from the social networks themselves. Think outside of the box and make it fun for your customers to interact with your business online. The world is moving faster than it ever has before and capturing people\’s attention depends more now than ever on grabbing them where they are at and keeping their attention focused on whatever it is that you have to offer them. It isn\’t difficult to build your business successfully online in 2012, it is just different than it has been in the past. In many ways it is actually even easier, providing you have a strategy in place to engage your existing customers in such a way where they are willing to share your business with their friends. It is only logical that the search engines follow what is popular in the minds of the public when determining how a site ranks. The implementation of this fully is not here yet, but I would bet money that it is right around the corner.
