Incline Treadmills – Benefits of Using a High Incline Treadmill to Lose Weight
Looking for a high incline treadmill? Most treadmills today come with some type of incline. Incline changes the slope of your treadmill belt so that you\’re walking on more of an angle. It\’s like walking uphill.
Most regular treadmills today will give you an incline of 10 – 15%. However there\’s a new twist on the classic treadmill that has come out over the past few years – a high incline treadmill called an incline trainer.
These machines are similar to a treadmill – but allow you to walk on higher inclines, helping you burn more calories and getting a better body in less time.
There are 2 main types of these trainers. The first is seen in machines like the Bowflex Treadclimber or the Nautilus Mobia.
These trainers use 2 smaller treadbelts that rise to meet your feet as you walk. You can burn up to twice the calories on one of these trainers as you can on a regular treadmill.
Plus, because the belts rise to meet your feet, they are actually lower impact. So if you are prone to knee, hip or back problems, this might be a good option for you. These also tend to be more compact than standard treadmills and take up less space.
The second type of incline trainer can be seen in machines like the NordicTrack or Freemotion incline trainers. These are actually treadmills – built with super high inclines.
You can get up to 40% inclines on these machines. You can also just use them as a standard treadmill with a much lower incline, depending on what type of workout you want that day.
The benefit to these types of trainers is that you can also run on them. Just make sure you get one with a belt that\’s long enough to accommodate your stride (for most people that\’s about 55 inches long or more).
The main benefit to high incline treadmills is that you can get faster results in less time. In fact with some trainers you can burn up to 5 times the calories as you can on a regular walking workout.
Many people are pressed for time these days – so if you can get better results in half the time, why wouldn\’t you? Another benefit is that they are lower impact on the body. So they\’re a great way to still burn calories without the jarring impact that a running workout can have on your body.
But you don\’t just have to walk at an incline for your whole workout (which can be a challenge, especially when you\’re just starting out). You can use the high inclines to build in intervals to your workout.
This is a great way to burn more calories both during your workout and for hours afterwards. So there are several ways you can incorporate incline training into your workouts and enjoy the benefits.
No matter what you choose to do, make sure you take your time and listen to your body when exercising. Only do what you can and realize that your body will get stronger and leaner over time. Enjoy the journey!
