Investing in Your Home is a BAD Idea
Your home is probably the largest investment you ever make, so it’s important you maintain it good condition. Unfortunately, the weather plays a large part in creating things that need repair of replacement. Years of bad weather during the winter can mean roofs get damaged, wooden window frames rot and sidings start to look drab.
Charlottesville has a terrific charm and people are proud of their home town and this extends to making sure that their homes are in keeping with the general appearance expected. If you have recently noticed that perhaps the exterior of your home isn’t look as good as it used to and think it stands out a little from those homes around you, perhaps it’s time to think about ways to spruce it up.
Obviously there is a cost factor for any home improvement, but this has to be tempered by the benefits you get from using modern materials when items such as windows, siding and doors need replacing. Old doors and windows not only detract from the overall look of your home, they are draftee, poorly insulated and almost impossible to maintain.
You have probably found that in the springtime it’s necessary for some maintenance to take place. You scrap of the old paintwork, fill in cracks and replace parts that are rotten then prime and repaint the woodwork only to find that in a years’ time it needs doing again. Save yourself the effort; modern materials used for windows, sidings and doors, never rot and never need to be painted again. They are easy to clean and will look as good 10 years on as when they were new. Add to that the extra benefits that you can’t see when you get new windows, doors and sidings and you will soon find that it really makes sense to get the work done.
Just consider the following; new windows and doors are fully insulated. This doesn’t only mean that they have double glazing, it means that the doors frames and window frames are also fully insulated. This can have an astounding effect on your energy consumption. Drafty, poor fitting, single glazed windows let a lot of your warmth out during the winter months and during the summer hot air gets in and, if you have a cooling system, your expensive cool air gets out.
If you choose to replace the sidings as well then new modern sidings are also insulated helping your energy costs even more. Other important reasons to consider replacing your doors and windows include noise reduction and better protection for your home; modern windows and doors have multiple locking systems, making forced entry very difficult. It also means that your home insurance payments may be less.
Finally, getting doors, windows and sidings replaced will increase the value of your home which is an important consideration. It’s likely that over the following 10 years, the energy savings you make, the money you save from not having to undertake annual maintenance, together with the increased value of your home will compensate you for the initial expense of have the work done.
