Lamborghini
When you think about a Lamborghini you think of class, speed and looks. It’s in an elite class of its own and the price tag is way beyond the reach of most people and therefore just remains a dream.
Despite what you may think the Lamborghini Company has a fairly chequered history. The Lamborghini Company is not that old, when compared to many other car manufacturers. It was started by Ferrucio Lamborghini in 1963. The car’s famous logo is a bull and was used because it represents the birth sign of Ferrucio Lamborghini; Taurus the bull.
During the same year the first Lamborghini; the 350 GTV was presented to the Turin Motor Show. Only three years later the Lamborghini Miura was produced and in 1968 the Lamborghini Espada 400 GT was produced. Each car was built specifically for their wealthy owners.
The Lamborghini Company went from strength to strength during the 1960’s and very early 1970’s. Those fortunate enough be able to afford such cars were willing to part with the money and gas was inexpensive. However, sad times lay ahead and fortunes changed due to the worldwide oil and economic crisis in the 1970’s. In 1974, Ferrucio Lamborghini was forced to sell his dream company; 51 percent was sold to Rosetti and the remaining 49 percent to Leimer, but this sale was not to revive the Lamborghini Company’s fortunes. Six years on from the sale it went into receivership. A rescue package was put together and the company was sold to the Mimran brothers.
Attempts were made by the new owners to rekindle the company, but in 1987 a decision was taken for Chrysler to take the helm. Yet again it proved difficult to get the company in good shape and a further sale took place in 1994 and then, finally in 1998 Audi took over Lamborghini. It seemed at last that the company was on a sure footing.
A fairly recent addition to the Lamborghini family of cars was the Lamborghini Reverton. It is shaped like a wedge, following the design of the F22 Raptor fighter plane. If you have a chance to sit inside the Reverton you will see that the control panel resembles the cockpit of an aircraft. If you are lucky enough to drive it, its zero to 60 miles per hour acceleration of just 3.4 seconds mimics the acceleration of a jet fighter; and it continues to accelerate to over 200 mph. Somewhat like Henry Ford’s first production car, you can have it in any color, so long as it’s black.
There is no doubt, owning a Lamborghini is a status symbol reserved for a fortunate few. It’s not often you see a Lamborghini pass by, but if you do everyone’s head turns. It’s impossible not to look at a Lamborghini; which is probably the closest most people will ever come to having one. Owning a Lamborghini will only ever be reserved for the really wealthy and even then prospective owners need to be patient as it can take a considerable time between placing your order and getting delivery of your prized car.
