Making the Ultimate Marriage Proposal
You’ve found the girl or man of your dreams and you can’t wait to get married, but just how do you make that ultimate marriage proposal? After all, there is no guide book on how to get the proposal just right and for many people, it’s the most nerve wracking experience of their lives – even if they are confident of a positive outcome!
There are many considerations to make when planning a surprise proposal and there really is no right or wrong way to go about it. The proposal should be as unique and individual as the wedding at the end of it; it should be all about what is right for you and not what everyone else thinks you should do. But to help you along here are a few ideas to get you going.
Traditional Wedding Proposals
It’s not necessary these days to ask the father for his daughter’s hand in marriage, but if you want to get her family on side then it’s a nice idea that would soften most dads’ hearts. It shows respect for him and a willingness to accept her family. You can even enlist dad to help with the proposal itself! Getting approval from her family is crucial to a happy wedding and a happy bride!
Unusual Wedding Proposals
There is a tale in the Ukraine of a man by the name of Gennady Zaleskiy who paid for an entire theatre company to stage a play with himself cast as the leading man. He then arranged for his girlfriend to attend the theatre as part of a girls’ night out. His character was masked throughout but at the point where he was suppose to declare his love for his leading lady, he instead tore off his mask, turned to his girlfriend and popped the question … she said yes! There have also been skydiving proposals, and stunt proposals but you really don’t have to go to such extremes. A much simpler idea and no less romantic is to form the words using rose petals on her bed or collude with her favourite restaurant to have the words spelt out on her plate. Unusual wedding proposals will never be forgotten and will make an excellent story to tell the grandchildren!
Public Wedding Proposals
The confident proposer might want to make a public declaration of his love, in front of close family and friends or even an entire football stadium! You may want to consider this type of proposal carefully as your girlfriend would need to be the kind of girl who doesn’t mind being in the spotlight and who you are fairly confident is going to reply with a resounding yes. If you’re not too sure about such public declarations then perhaps getting just a few friends involved is the perfect compromise and ideal for giving the nervous proposer a little support.
Romantic Wedding Proposals
Christmas and New Year is the most romantic time of year to propose marriage to your loved one as the scene is already set with the expectation of gift giving and moments shared. It’s also an intimate setting where you can present the ring as a special gift that you’ve kept back – perhaps even hiding it in the Christmas tree with her name on. Or how about proposing just as the clock strikes midnight and the champagne is already flowing? Make sure you have your own bottle of champagne with some personalised flutes to start the celebrations in style!
Whichever way you decide to propose, do make sure that it reflects your own personalities.
Don’t try too hard to come up with the ultimate wedding proposal because no matter when and where you decide the time is right to pop the question – it will always be the ultimate wedding proposal for the two of you and will never be forgotten.
Once he or she (remember that 2012 is a Leap Year girls!) accepts your marriage proposal then you can gather all your family and friends and have a brilliant celebration of your engagement with a fabulous engagement party! After all that effort and sweat over the proposal, you deserve a celebration!
