Managing Pain Relief Naturally

Pain is the body’s natural method of letting you know when something is wrong. However, it can be very debilitating, particularly if you are unable to ease the pain. There are many over the counter conventional drugs available for pain relief, if the pain is not that severe. There are few, if any, side effects from most over the counter drugs, but they must be taken according to the instruction on the packet and it’s wise to read the leaflet to check for possible side effects.

However, if you have serious pain, then conventional doctors will prescribe strong pain killing drugs, but most can have unpleasant side effects. Examples include nausea, dizziness and lethargy. These types of drugs need to taken with caution and the dosage instructions must be followed exactly.

People who suffer from regular pain, whether it’s severe or not, are generally willing to look for other methods to relieve their pain. There has been a substantial increase in the number of people using alternative medicine and, like regular pain killers there are many types of remedies available over the counter. Many alternative medicine practitioners suggest they are able to treat people suffering with more severe types of pain. The remedies are said to be totally safe and don’t produce side effects.

Alternative medical practitioners suggest the use of capsaicin for conditions such as arthritis and neuropathy. Capsaicin is understood to anaesthetize the nerve endings and if taken regularly pain can reduce. In fact a study by the University of Oxford concluded that 40 percent of arthritis sufferers had reduced pain when using capsaicin cream regularly while 60 percent of people suffering from neuropathy found that their pain was relieved by 50 percent after about 2 months. A further study undertaken by the New England Center for Headache found the intensity of their migraine attacks were reduced by using capsaicin.

You can get capsaicin in the form of lotions and creams over the counter in most drug or health stores. Don’t expect the pain to reduce immediately; it can take about 2 weeks before you notice any changes to the intensity of the pain. Currently, capsaicin is a fairly mild pain reliever so is best suited for acute pain rather than continuous severe pain.

InflaThera and Zyflamend both contain anti-inflammatory properties which can relieve the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. It is also considered to be helpful for skin conditions such as psoriasis. There is no scientific evidence that these herbs work but, research is being undertaken. These herbs are supplied in the form of capsules which should be taken with food. Zyflamend is available over the counter, but InflaThera can only be obtained from a practitioner as it is much stronger and needs to be supervised. You should note that Zyflamend contains caffeine, so it’s wise to avoid taking it before you go to bed.

Both of these herbs contain curcumin, which if the anti-inflammatory ingredient so it your symptoms are fairly mild a much cheaper alternative is to try using curcumin first.
