#2 iFit

iFit is something you\’ll find on most Proform crosstrainers. It\’s a way to add even more built-in workouts to your machine. You\’ll find ellipticals with 2 types of iFit: iFit card readers or iFit LIVE.

iFit card readers have a reader in the console. You insert the iFit card which carries 8 weeks of personal trainer workouts (based on a specific goal like weight loss or performance).

The machine remembers where you left off and starts the next workout. The voice of a personal trainer talks you through the workout.

iFit LIVE takes it a step further and connects your elliptical to the internet to download new workouts, map out new courses to run and track your fitness activity online. iFit LIVE is found on the newer, higher-end Proform models.

#3 Incline

Incline (also called ramp) changes the workout slope of your elliptical pathway. This works different muscle groups and can help you get a better lower body workout.

Several Proform ellipticals offer power-incline (where you can change the incline with the touch of a button). One of the new 2012 models even comes with decline (negative incline) to really supercharge your crosstraining.

#4 Fun Tools

Proform is known for packing lots of extra fun tools you won\’t find elsewhere into their ellipticals to make your workouts more enjoyable.

For example, you\’ll find ellipticals with built-in console video games that get easier the harder you work. The iFit LIVE models let you run trails all over the world – and you can even see famous landmarks in the console window as you workout. So those are some of the benefits of Proform ellipticals. Are there any drawbacks?

Well, the starter models – while cheaper – are not recommended for heavier usage. They just aren\’t built to hold up as well over the long run.
