Rehabilitation Software Maker is in the Clouds
Mumerous benefits of cloud computing for physical therapy clinics.
As research continues to show that cloud computing is revolutionizing the health care industry, it is becoming more apparent that those benefits aren\’t limited only to physical therapy clinics, said Dr. Jay Winburn, president of Prognition, which makes the rehabilitation software.
For those who lack familiarity with the term, American Medical News gives a good definition: Cloud computing references a number of technology solutions that share three commonalities:
– They run on the Internet.
– They use shared resources including storage, processing, memory and network bandwidth with other users.
– They are \”on-demand,\” which means network storage and other capabilities can be adjusted virtually without the need for in-house IT staff to tear apart computers and add additional wiring and cords.
Medical Office Today lists one of the numerous benefits of cloud computing technology as the way it makes data accessibility simple. \”Nowadays, it\’s more difficult to remember that there was a time in which medical offices were forced to devote a sizable portion of square footage to records storage,\” Winburn said. \”Thanks to the introduction of \’the cloud,\’ all of those records can be stored electronically.\”
Cloud-based software types like Mavenlive exercise software also are more flexible and user-friendly than traditional systems. When software for physical therapy and other health care-related software is accessed from the cloud, the user can do so using a variety of devices- iPads, laptops, or even smart phones are a handful of examples, Winburn said.
Cloud-based information storage and accessibility from different types of devices also supplies the freedom for health care workers to access the documents from anywhere they can obtain Internet access. That can mean offices, homes, or local coffee shops.
\”Medical professionals lead busy lives, so this makes it possible for them to work nearly anywhere they are when they have a spare moment,\” he said. Drafting letters to doctors who have referred patients can be done from the comfort of the sofa at home, if desired. In terms of cost, experts are in agreement that cloud-based solutions offer significant savings, the American Medical News site stated.
Cloud computing eliminates the need for servers and IT professionals to keep them up and running, said Chris Metcalfe, vice president of of technical development for Mavenlive. \”To use Mavenlive as an example, we maintain that here at Prognition,\” Metcalfe said. \”If it\’s time for an upgrade or a glitch needs correcting, we take care of those things.\”
The cost of cloud-based software programs depends on the needs of each clinic and their storage needs, Winburn said. But it typically is acknowledged by those in technology circles that cloud-based systems are less expensive and more flexible for medical offices\’ needs, according to AMN.
