Sculpture Art History

Sculpture art has been around since the beginning of time. There are pieces that archaeologists have removed from digs that have proven that sculpture art has been around for a long time. It may not have always been called that, but that is what it would be classified as now.

Pieces that have been found tell about the time in which they were created. They may be pieces of religion, politics, celebrations of great victories, or telling stories of what the lives of those people who created them were like during those times. Some great examples of these are some of the pieces that have come from ancient Roman times.

Modern day sculpture art still translates that today. Today, pieces are made out of many more things than they were long ago. Artists have access to many more mediums than they did thousands of years ago.

Now they use clays, ice, sand, different metals, water, polymers, plastics, and even crayons! Almost anything that can be sculpted or molded, artists have used.

This has changed the way this art form is interpreted as well. Since there are now multiple types and styles of sculpture art, artists are no longer limited in where they go with their work.

It also means that, with many pieces, even a layperson can gain something from them. No longer does art need to be limited to the art world. It can and has expanded past its own boundaries and is now in almost every place people work, play, or visit.

Examples of sculpture art are too limitless to list, but knowing the definition of what the word is can help anyone spot one anywhere they go. Sculptures are a three-dimensional piece of artwork that is created by combining two or multiple materials together.

It can also be done by removing material from an object, like carving. It is done by shaping these materials, or mediums, to form the finished piece. Some examples of that are welding, shaving, firing, and casting.

One of the reasons this kind of artwork has remained around and even gained in popularity over the years is how intimate these pieces can be. Artists that create these pieces do so with their hearts, especially with sculpting pieces together and making something almost out of nothing.

The time, dedication, and the heart that is put into this type of work is like no other. Many people believe that is why this kind of artwork has survived for thousands of years. They also believe that is why it has become so popular.

It attracts people to itself. It is hard to not stop and look at a piece of work and really think about the story the artist is trying to tell. Maybe it is an emotion or feeling they were trying to emulate.

This is the point of this work. It is not just to glance at and walk on by. The artist wants people to stop and think. It is the emotion or feeling behind the piece that grabs the attention of the passerby and beckons them to “listen” to the artwork.
