See All Kinds of Sea Life on Your Florida Vacation

No Florida vacation would be complete without at least a couple of special wildlife sightings! And what’s more interesting than observing animals that live under the sea?

Hammerhead sharks, bottlenose dolphins and Gulf shrimp are among more than 500 species of marine animals that live happily in Florida waters, protected under state and federal laws.

Many sea creatures make their homes in the Florida Keys too where the only coral barrier reef in the continental US is found.

Movie fans will want to make a special trip to visit the Clearwater Aquarium on their Florida vacation. That’s the home to Winter, the star of Dolphin Tale, a movie also starring Ashley Judd, Morgan freeman and Harry Connick Jr. (You may have heard of this film about a baby dolphin who was dying until scientists fashioned a fancy new prosthetic tail.)

Do you dream of watching dolphins play on your Florida vacation?

Swim with the fishes on your Florida vacation

Go a bit further than just watching dolphins and swim with dolphins, rays and other types of gorgeous, exotic fish at Discovery Cove in Orlando!

Or check out The Florida Aquarium Swim with the Fishes program in Tampa. This program lets you dive in and swim among manmade reef where you\’ll also swim with porcupine fish, moray eels and even green sea turtles.

And then there’s Disney World!

Disney’s Dive Quest adventure allows guests to SCUBA dive with 60 species of marine life!

If you\’re fully SCUBA certified and over the age of 10, dive into this 5.7-million-gallon saltwater tank, one of the largest you’ll find anywhere in the world. Here you’ll be immersed in a magical undersea world for 40 minutes. You’ll swim with sharks, sea turtles and more than 6,000 other creatures of the sea. Part of this package offers a special backstage peek at the infrastructure that sustains this ocean experience. (Wave back to the people looking at the aquarium through the glass because with Dive Quest you become part of a Disney World attraction!)

And for young children who are obsessed with all things under the sea thanks to Nemo, they would love to “sea” Finding Nemo-The Musical!

The beloved animated film about a clownfish named Marlin has been adapted for stage in a Broadway-style Disney musical playing in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. It’s not “real” sea life, but it is awfully entertaining!
