Testosterone Replacement in Men
Mostly men who are older express the wish to try testosterone replacement. There are certain things that a man must know about before agreeing to take any supplements. The best thing is that those men who have low testosterone can benefit from its replacement because it can reduce the risk of getting heart disease or diabetes. Testosterone replacement can also relieve the symptoms of andropause which is middle-age hormone decline. The symptoms of andropause are weight gain particularly belly fat, high LDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, insomnia, irritability, depression, low sex drive, memory problems among others. Once men have had testosterone replacement they suddenly see that a lot of the above mentioned symptoms become less or things happen like they lose weight which they weren’t able to lose before. Another good thing that no adverse effects have been reported in men using testosterone supplements. This is the good side of things however there is also a down side. There are concerns that by increasing testosterone levels it may raise blood pressure in the long run and perhaps there may be kidney function damage. Others are concerned about prostate disease since higher testosterone levels have been known to be associated with prostate cancer and/or enlargement. It is beneficial to note that men who have prostate disease, high blood pressure or kidney disease should not go for treatments to get testosterone replacement. However it is always in any case advisable to consult with your doctor. If you are a candidate for testosterone replacement it can be done in various ways. One way is through the use of pills however most of the pills which are available are not overly effective and unfortunately are not prescribed in the U.S. since they may be toxic to the liver.
There is a pill which is an exception to the rule and it is the testosterone dendecanoate form which is absorbed by the lymphatic system and not the liver and has to be ingested 4 times a day. Again it is not available right now in the U.S. You may choose to have injections which include cypionate and Sostenon 250 among others. These injections are given 2-3 times a week and if you want they can be given by self-injection. There are some side effects such as pain and bleeding at the injection site, bursts of testosterone going out of normal range as soon as the injection is given and low levels soon afterwards. Men can choose to use gels for testosterone replacement which include AndroGel, AndroDerm, and Axion among others and are rubbed into the skin at bedtime. The drawback is that there may be transference of hormones from one person to another if the gel hasn’t been completely absorbed by the skin. These must be kept away from children and pregnant women. There are also skin patches which can be used where the only side effect is reaction dermatitis to the patch. Information for testosterone replacement is available on-line and consult with your doctor.
