Virginia Architectural Home Styles
Charlottesville sits at bottom of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in the state of Virginia. Charlottesville dates back to 1762 and is getting ready to celebrate its 250th anniversary during 2012. Recently, Frommer’s Cities Ranked and Rated placed Charlottesville as the number one place to live in the U.S. The rating took account of such things as employment, weather, educational standards, healthcare and transport. It was also based on the general quality of life, which included low levels of crime.
There is no set style of home in Charlottesville, which is what helps it to have great charm. It has historic period homes, modern homes, grand homes and smaller homes all of which are intermingled with each. Drive down any street and you are unlikely to see rows of homes all looking the same. The individuality stands out whether you are in the metropolitan area of a little farther out.
The one thing all the homes have in common is plenty of windows. Modern homes and those under construction feature double-glazed windows, made from materials that never rot or need painting, but many of the older homes have single glazed windows and wooden frames.
If you are finding that your windows, particularly the frames are beyond reasonable repair then it’s probably time to consider getting modern replacement windows fitted. New windows will give your home a completely new appearance, but you don’t need to change the style. New windows are available in any type of style. You can also choose the type of finish you want for the framework, such as wood effect, or if you prefer you can chose colored frames that match or blend in with the rest of the exterior of your home.
However, it’s not just about the look that new windows provide, although that is of course a consideration; there are many other reasons to get replacement windows fitted. Energy prices are constantly rising and you are bound to be looking at ways to minimize the cost. Modern replacement windows will reduce those energy costs. Firstly, they are completely sealed units so once a window is closed it is draft proof.
Secondly, they are double glazed and UV protected. This means that during the winter your expensive heat stays in your home rather than going out through the window. However, during the hot summer months, not only do the windows keep the cool air in your home, but also heat from the sun is reflected away from the windows while allowing maximum light to penetrate.
Thirdly, because the windows are so well insulated you will notice a reduction in noise from outside, so if you live in an area with a fair amount of traffic noise you will be pleasantly surprised at how quiet your home becomes.
When checking around for window manufacturers, consider using the services of a local company. They are probably better suited to knowing what will suit best and are on hand should you need to contact them after the windows have been fitted.
