In the United States alone, around 17 million Americans get depressed every year, and the US of A is just one continent in the world. Depression is a common issue, but one that still needs to be addressed properly. Why, because untreated depression can wreak havoc to your mental and physical health. Even simple depression can get you so down in the dumps that it can lead to eating problems, sleep disturbances, lethargy, inability to focus and loss of desire to do anything productive.
It is an incredibly good thing that you are having the interest to find out how to deal with depression. Acknowledging the fact that you have depression is the first step to coping with it. I will not say that you can totally get rid of depression. It\’s part of life, after all, but you can learn how to cope with it and not let it take control of your life.
Practical Solutions To Cope With Depression
Take a break. Staying indoors moping can choke you. Go on a vacation where you can enjoy nature and yourself. This may not necessarily take your mind off the problem, but it helps to make you realize that the world is a big place with plenty of wonderful sights, sounds, and opportunities.
Treat yourself to something or someplace relaxing. Get a full body massage, get a makeover, have your hair and nails done, go to a spa or do some window shopping.
Munch on something healthy but which helps to balance your hormones and increase your serotonin levels, such as nuts, chickpeas, spinach, fish, chicken, turkey, and other foods that are high in folate, pantothenic acid, cobalamin, thiamin, niacin, and Vitamin C.
Do something you\’re really good at – play the piano or any kind of instrument you know, sing, cook, knit, write.
Learn a new hobby. Take up juggling, for instance. It improves your coordination and cognition. Having a new hobby to occupy your time can be very motivating.
Start making a difference in someone else\’s life. Divert your focus from your self to others. Participate in outreach and community programs.
Take Vitamin B complex. The B-Vitamins, especially, Vitamins B1, B3, B5, B6, B9, and B12 are not anti-depressant drugs that require doctor\’s prescription. They are simply food supplements that help to increase your body\’s supply of nutrients that have something to do with your emotions.
If you are depressed because of money problems, running away from your financial obligations will not solve your problem. Here are some things you can do to remedy the situation:
Consider having all your debts consolidated into one. This way you will have just one company to deal with monthly and possibly at lower interest rates.
Control your expenses. Slash off things you really do not need at the moment. Prioritize your basic needs – food, water, housing.
Learn to save. Walk instead of taking your car if it\’s more practical to do so, turn off electricity if it\’s not necessary, cut off other monthly subscriptions (cable, telephone, magazines, etc.)
Make more money. Consider getting a part-time job, whether online or offline. You can make a little more money to deal with your debt if you open your mind to it instead of running away and making all sorts of excuses to your creditors.
