What Makes the Perfect Kitchen For Cooking?

The layout of your kitchen affects its functionality – a good deal of planning should go into your kitchen to ensure it’s functional and to ensure space is maximised to its full potential. Kitchen planner software is a good to way to play around with all of the options you have for your kitchen, and because it’s a computer-aided software you can freely chop and change the layout with the click of a mouse until you are happy with the design. Most kitchen stores will have home design software so you won’t have to fork out on the programme yourself, or learn how to use it, as there will be trained staff ready to help you plan your new kitchen.

The aesthetics of a kitchen are important – a practical and stylish kitchen will bump up your house price when, or indeed if, you decide to put your property on the market. The central design of the kitchen should be the work triangle – the triangle consists of your sink, refrigerator and preparation space for cooking. You should carefully consider these points and ensure you have ample space to manoeuvre between all three key points.

Storage space is vital in any kitchen but especially a small one. Careful planning should ensure you maximise your space to keep your kitchen efficient. There are brilliant space-saving furniture options like built-in shelves, hook storage for pots, pans and kitchen utensils and tiered drawers. These are just a few examples of kitchen furniture that can be used to save space.

What other factors make a perfect kitchen?

Aside from the kitchen triangle there are a few other bits you can add to make your kitchen perfect. They include:

Good knives

No well-equipped should be without a decent set of knives for chopping. A good set of knives is a worthwhile investment, and with a solid steel knife sharpener they will last you a long time – making them worth their money.

Island plugs

Island plugs on worktop surfaces are perfect for when you need to use extra appliances and the sockets can be covered over when they aren’t being used to disguise them – they are usually built flat into the worktop so they aren’t too noticeable but a cover is essential to keep any mess from interfering with the electricity.

A hydro-tap

This is quite a pricey purchase but saves you the hassle of ever using a kettle! These taps manage to pour cold, filtered and boiling water instantly – very practical. The only downside is that they have a large box underneath and they aren’t cheap. A worthwhile investment in the long run though.

Saucepans

A good, durable and non-stick saucepan makes a world of difference compared to cheaper pans – and buying a decent saucepan doesn’t mean spending the earth. Often, brand name quality pans are on offer in sets and spending a little more means they will last you a lot longer. Perfect and ideal for any kitchen, especially for those fond of (or doing a lot of) cooking.
