4 Objectives of First Aid Training
In some situations, there is a thin line between life and death; it feels good to be able to help someone. And this help can and should come if you have undergone basic first aid training. Doctors, nurses and paramedics are trained to save lives but unfortunately, are not present everywhere, all the time. It is the common man, you and me, who can help at that minute, saving the situation from going bad by administering first aid, and trying and saving a life.
With increasing awareness, increasing numbers of accidents and emergency requirements, many people opt to undergo first aid training. Many online training options exist, making it easy for the interested to pursue it. There are 4 central objectives to a first aid training course.
A trained person would be expected to understand these objectives:
– Identifying the cause of injury and acting. A first aid course teaches you to identify the cause of the injury and take steps that would help minimize the injury. A continuing injury only intensifies the pain and damage to the person suffering. The first aid provider would be required to understand the source of the pain and act immediately.
– Prioritize and be time-wise. In an emergency situation, there is only so much time. The provider of the first aid has to be smart and time-wise. For a patient who is in pain and suffering, each second only adds to the trauma. In case of more than one casualty, the first aid provider needs to prioritize and decide which injury needs immediate attention and which can wait. The course will teach you to prioritize and act wisely. It will teach you how to administer basic first aid and judge the situations.
– Understand the working of the human body. The basic biology, anatomy and working of the body need to be understood. Sometimes, even simple injuries can be very fatal if the working of the body is not known. While we almost know the basic anatomy of the body, it is not enough to administer first aid. The course will teach you about how first aid can affect the body and vice versa.
– Understand your role, do not play doctor. While you are trained to provide medical first aid, you are not the doctor. When you are in an emergency situation, examine well and provide first aid immediately. If the extent of the injury requires trained help, call for medical help immediately. Judge the situation and do not play doctor. Perform only those duties you have been trained to perform. The course will teach you only so much, the rest has to come from a medical professional. This is one of the main duties of a first aid provider.
While very unfortunate, it feels good to be useful in an emergency situation. A first aid training course can prepare you for these unforeseen emergencies, when you can look after yourself, your family, your loved ones and those other people who are around you and are suffering.
