Aesthetic Skin Care Tips: Chemical Peel Aftercare

Okay, so you have your chemical peel done and over with. Your skin is now stripped off all dead skin cell, stubborn dirt and grime. So what next is there to do? At this time there are special precautions that you have to do to make sure that you avoid adverse reactions and prevent any complications. That way you can only enjoy desirable results.

One of the very important reminders that you give yourself is to avoid touching your face. This is the time where it is most sensitive and very vulnerable to irritation that is why you should keep your hands off this area. If your skin starts peeling off, don’t remove it right away before it is even ready to fall off. Doing this can irritate the skin which can result to darkening in that particular area or scars.

In the case that you have accidentally peeled off dead skin that is not yet ready to come off, you can use an occlusive to curtail the damage. Hydroquinone may also be applied because this protects the skin from possible complications and even remedy some damage done.

A superficial type of aftercare that you can do after a chemical peel is to use a mild facial cleanser to wash the face. Take note to use water that has a cool temperature to wash the face. And remember to use a tapping motion of the towel instead of rubbing when drying your face. This is to prevent abrasion or irritations.

You must also take note that you have to avoid facial scrubs, acne cleansers or exfoliants around this time. This might lead your skin to be scratched introducing bacteria which could ultimately lead to infections.

Apply a moisturizer right after every wash to add or maintain moisture into the skin. This keeps the skin more hydrated and strong enough to heal faster. Choose a gentle moisturizer because you will be applying this for 2-4 times a day. Hydrocortisone creams may also be used for this purpose, but you have to be careful not to go overboard with it because it can delay or prevent healing.

If you want to let your skin heal faster after a chemical peel treatment, you need to protect it with a broad spectrum sunscreen. It should be one that has both UVA and UVB protection with an SPF of at least 30. Also look for the chemical zinc oxide on the bottle because these are the safest to use especially among those who are sensitive to the chemicals in sunscreen lotion. You may also be advised not to use sunscreen unless your skin has peeled off entirely.

If you have had those chemical peels that works on a medium depth, it is best that you avoid sun exposure for at least two months. For some extra added protection, wear a hat and sunglasses.

Avoid any makeup for the duration of the healing process of your skin post chemical peel. Your skin may still be sensitive to the chemicals in your make up, although some mineral make up may be safe to use. But to be safe better avoid it during this time.
