Banner American PL100 QuickFinish Pouch Laminator Review
With the drop of pouch laminator prices over the last 10 years, it is now easy to find a machine for under $100. These machines produce great results and can be used to laminate photos, cards, signs and more. Once such laminator is the Banner American QuickFinish PL100 thermal pouch laminating machine. Having used this machine myself, I would like to share with you its pros and cons.
Banner American is one of the biggest manufacturers of pouch laminating machines in the United States. Many of their laminators are made in the USA and they all feature a quality that Banner American is known for. Their lineup of laminators includes several pouch laminators, including the popular PL12a, as well as a wide variety of roll laminators that can be used to laminate maps, posters, banners and other large material.
The PL100 is Banner American\’s least expensive pouch laminator. It is primarily designed for entry level and light volume use. This may be at home, in the office or at a school. It uses heat to warm up glue on laminating pouches. As this glue melts, it sticks to the item you are trying to laminate. This may be a photo, a sign or a card. The pouch exits the other side of the machine where it then cools off and another item can be inserted.
The PL100 has a 10\” wide opening, making it perfect for laminating smaller items as well as larger letter-size items. The manufacturer recommends not using it with pouches wider than 9.5\”. It can even be used to laminate multiple small items simultaneously. Results are clean, crisp and clear. This is a two-roller laminator.
Once plugged in, this laminator is full warmed up and ready to be used in just three minutes. A toggle switch, located on the right side of the machine, can be used to switch between hot laminating, cold laminating and even for use with foil fusing foil sheets. A light lets you know when it is powered up and another light lets you know when you\’re ready to go. No special training is required to use this laminator.
The PL100 can be used with both 3 and 5 mil pouches. This is an extremely nice feature, especially considering the low price. A mil is a thousandth of an inch. The higher the number, the thicker the film.
The silver-gray and charcoal black color scheme looks great. This laminator features a modern design and rounded corners. I have to say that this laminator, in person, looks far more expensive than it really is. It fits in nicely with existing office equipment.
This laminator is very light and extremely portable. It can be stored in a cupboard or drawer and can be used on most desks, countertops and tables.
In conclusion, I have to say that this is one solid laminator. It is a great value, and as long as it isn\’t purchased for high-volume applications, it should easily hold up for some time. As mentioned earlier, Banner American is an excellent company.
