Choosing the Right Church PA System
When it comes to choosing the ideal PA system for your church there can be little doubt that the makeup of your congregation should be the main driver in selecting a system. If your congregation tends to be of mostly younger individuals then there is every chance that the worship used in your church will be mostly contemporary and if this is the case then a system that clearly enables each musician to be heard clearly is vital and even more important that the vocals are dominant in the output. If your congregation tends to be more traditional and relies on one instrument then this clarity is not as important although it is still important that any vocals are still very much to the fore in your output.
Either way you also need to be careful that you don\’t place all your emphasis on speakers to the front of the church whilst overlooking the option of distributing them throughout your place of worship including the rear and side of the building. Place them to the front and those who are in those front few rows run the risk of being completely overwhelmed by the volume whilst for those at the back it can become unclear to the point of distorted, something which you certainly don’t want to be the case.
Another area to be wary of is if your church uses percussion or drums as part of its worship. No matter how much you will try, rest assured that drums will always try to force their way to the top of the queue of being heard. There are several ways of reducing their input such as acoustic enclosures or simple drum brushes but I won’t go into the information on those here other than to say any good PA installation company should be able to advise on this.
When it comes to speaking through a PA system once again clarity is of the utmost importance and it is vital once again to ensure correct location of your speakers to ensure that those people who choose to sit at the back hear your message every bit as well as those who are happy enough to sit at the front. Hands free microphones are also well worth considering as many individuals like to have that option of being able to move around as they convey their message, a position achieved by a simple attachment of a microphone to their jacket.
The clarity of PA\’s in churches should be regarded as even more important than that of secular artists, they are quite happy for the noise to be the driver of their presentation whereas for a church this should never be the ultimate aim in that the message should be the main thrust of your labours.
Make sure then when discussing installation that the above points are closely considered at all times, follow these guidelines and you can\’t go far wrong…amen to that!
