Crucial Facts to Consider Before Buying a Caravan

One of the most important factors to consider when buying a caravan is whether you want to buy a static or mobile caravan. Both have their advantages depending on your requirements.

A static caravan can make an ideal holiday home for those who have favourite places which they like to revisit time after time, it also provides all the comfort of a home such as toilets, showers, cooking facilities, heating and running water. This is because static caravans are moved onto a permanent chosen plot of land mostly on a caravan site. There is access to your own water and electric supply and this is normally included in the rent for the plot being used. Gas will need to be brought separately; these come in canisters and can normally be purchased from the site or nearby.

Static caravans can also be a great investment if you are prepared to rent them out. Good money can be made from renting your caravan in peak season such as school holidays. During peak season in Summer Holidays caravans can fetch up to £500 per week if your site has all the amenities such as leisure and club house facilities.

If you are a holiday maker who prefers to travel to different places, then a touring caravan may be more suitable. These have tow bars which enable you to connect it to your car or van and travel to your destination. Most sites will have electricity connections which you can use, there will also be shower and toilet facilities on site. The beauty with touring caravans is you never tire of the visiting the same place, you can choose to stay in a different area each time you go away.

Another important factor is to consider is whether to buy used caravans or not. Whether you are looking for a static or touring caravan, you can often get a good deal if you buy second hand. Whilst you can get a cheap price this way, it is important to check the caravan’s condition before buying. Ensure all is working well and that the condition is as stated and expected. If you are buying a static caravan ask whether your caravan comes with the plot it is located on or if you need to find a new one. You should look into how much the rates are as well.

If you decide to purchase used caravans, ensure they are safe and if it’s a touring caravan ensure it is road worthy. Those who are on a budget will probably prefer to purchase second hand, this does not mean that they will be old and run down, second hand could mean only a few years old. The cost of caravans depreciates in much the same way a vehicle does. A lovely modern caravan could be purchased for much less than the retail amount of buying the same one from new.

Your lifestyle and preferences will ultimately have the deciding factor in the type of caravan you choose but whatever you decide, you’re sure to get years of enjoyment from your purchase.
