Do You Need an Inkjet Printer?

Inkjet printers are available in a huge range of prices and you will easily be able to find one to suit your budget. If you are using your printer for home use, a low-end inkjet would suit you, providing you only wanted to print the basics: letters, receipts, invitations. For those homeowners or businesses who want to use their inkjets for printing high quality images, it might be best to purchase a mid to high-end printer.

You can also purchase portable printers if you’re on the go a lot or travelling for business purposes. Some portable printers weigh less than five pounds so can easily be carried around in your briefcase or bag. A lot of portable printers don’t need an electrical source of power, they can be plugged in by car adaptor, through a USB cable attached to a device, or can be battery powered – this makes than convenient and efficient for printing on the go.

Inkjets can be fairly inexpensive but the price of your printer will depend on what you want to use it for. The expensive bit is when you come to replacing your cartridge, printer companies tend to sell their printers at a cheaper price because they know they will make their money back with the cartridges. There are ways to save money when buying cartridges, obviously you should look out for special deals but you can also opt for a third-party cartridge instead of splashing out on the brand names. Lots of studies have proven third-party cartridges to be just as good as good, if not better, than the brand name.

An inkjet prints small droplets of ink onto paper to make an image (or text), these dots are tiny and positioned precisely, the more precise they are will depend on the printer’s resolution. A printer’s resolution is measured in dots per inch (DPI) and the higher the frequency of dots per inch, the better and sharper the printing quality.

Inkjet printers are suitable for home use and small offices as they aren’t as bulky as laser printers and are suitable for printing both images and text documents. A laser printer can print text quickly and precisely but would be suited to a larger office where lots of text documents are printed and in large volumes. Inkjets tend to make less noise than a laser while printing so you won’t be distracting anyone around you when you print.

The only disadvantage of an inkjet printer is the cost of the cartridges, but this doesn’t have to a problem, as they are suitable third-party equivalents for most types of brand-name printer. Research has shown that third-party cartridges are proven to be just as good, if not better, than original manufacturer cartridges. And despite what people think, brand compatible cartridges will not ruin your printer warranty, and if you read the terms and conditions in your printer manual, you should see this in writing. By refilling your empty inkjet cartridges, you’re not only saving yourself money but you are also helping the environment by recycling, and saving the planet’s natural resources by not purchasing a brand new cartridge.
