Dog Bathing Tips to Remember

Dogs can be very active pets especially when they are in good conditions. When we say good condition, this is when they get a good supply of food, supplements, bathing, grooming, scheduled vaccinations and de-wormings. If all of these are consistently met, you can expect good results in terms of activity, personality, temperament, as well as in appearance.

When it comes to dog bath, this should not be an “unpleasant time” for your precious little creature. In fact, it should be enjoyed in such a way he or she will look forward on having a bath. Although some people tend to find this process quite difficult especially when you have a dog that does not want to cooperate during the bathing process, it is actually a task that can be done quite easily without any struggle at all. As long as you know the proper way of bathing your dog, nothing will go wrong.

In case it is your first time to give your newly acquired puppy his or her first bath, make sure that you know what to avoid in order to make every bathing time enjoyable and fun for the pet. Below are some of the tips that you should keep in mind in order to have a good time with your dog while giving them their bath.

-Make it Brief – do not give your dog(s) long bathes as they tend to get bored quite easily and would try to escape. Make it quick yet thorough in order for them to stay focused and enjoy the time.

-Avoid Soap on Eyes, Ears, and Nose – make sure that water as well as the shampoo do not get into these parts of the dog’s body as it will make them quite uncomfortable. In order to avoid this mistake, make sure that the head will be the last part of the body to be bathed.

-Warm Water – avoid using tap water although some dogs can tolerate the temperature, most of the dogs especially those who are having their first baths as puppies tend to get uncomfortable with the water. Warm water is suggested if you are introducing bath time to your puppy as they tend to get more comfortable with the idea.

-Toys – stuffs that will get the attention of your dog during bath time are very helpful in distracting the pet from trying to struggle or get away from you. Make sure that the toys that you give them during this time are safe and can’t be swallowed to avoid problems.

-Dry – make sure that you will immediately dry up the coat of your dog as soon as possible in order to prevent them from chilling. You can either use clean towels to remove the water from their hair or use a hair dryer which is very helpful and effective in drying up the coat. In case you do not have a hair dryer, you can always use the clean towels as they do the job quite fine. You will need two to three towels for larger dogs, especially those with double coat or long coat.
