Dysport Vs. Botox: Which is the Better Option?

Botox has become one of our everyday lexicons being the most popular and oftentimes controversial anti-aging solution. But then here comes another name which just might nudge Botox from its rightful position among so many anti-aging injections, and that is Dysport. But does it really prove to be better than the famous brand, or does it just come with the hype but not really living up to it? To know the answers, let’s get to know each of these brands first.

What makes Botox the successful treatment that it has always been is the purified toxin from the bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. In its bad disguise, it is the very toxin which causes food poisoning. But in the formulation to create Botox it relaxes the muscles that create the facial expressions which causes wrinkles and fine lines.

In addition to this Botox can also be used as treatment for hyperhidrosis, lazy eye, migraine headaches, uncontrolled blinking and even writer’s camp. This is why Botox injections can reach up to over a million procedures done in a year in the US alone.

It has been in the market for many years, and within that span of time it has improved a lot of faces in America. However, due to poor practice or call of judgment from doctors who administer it, we often see these overly done results verging on hideous.

But overall Botox has received a good response from so many people and this continues on up to the present.

Dysport, on the other hand, is a relatively new product that came out on the US market in 2009. But it was reportedly used in other countries for many years already, particularly in Europe.

Dysport actually has the same component as Botox, which is the neurotoxin Clostridium Botulinum. So by that is also means that it has similar mechanisms of action.

However Dysport is composed of less protein compared to Botox which implies that it can produce fewer antibodies against the material. Although Dysport is formulated to provide anti-aging benefits, it will be considered as a foreign material by our system. This is also what is called an antigen, and it is only natural that our system forms antibodies as a natural protection. With the low amount of these naturally occurring soldiers produced it is understood that the effect of Dysport would last longer compared to Botox. But there are also clinical trials done which contests this claim.

Studies also show that Dysport is more diluted than Botox, which means that it has the tendency to spread more to surrounding areas. This can be both a good and a bad thing. As a benefit, you no longer need a number of injections to cover a certain area, which means less discomfort and bruising.

But when administered by someone who is not well versed on specific anatomical structures, there is a high risk that it could spread to other areas. This can result to certain adverse reactions such as droopy eyebrows, ptosis or blurred vision.

Both Botox and Dysport have similar side effects, which if left unsupervised could lead to very serious complications.

Most doctors claim that there really isn’t any much difference between the two. Dr. Carmen Kavali of Atlanta, who have also tried these treatments, states that Dysport and Botox basically has the same action but she notes that Dysport shows improvement much faster than its counterpart.

Both have varying measurement units, and it would take an experienced doctor to manage this properly in safe amounts. Only a skilled doctor would know how to apply the treatment in a way that would fit the areas that has to be improved. Each part of your face would need specific units to create an improved and balanced appearance.

So when it all comes down to it, Dysport and Botox have similar action with a few differences in measurements, solution and time of effect. The thing that you need to ensure though is that you choose a board-certified doctor, who is specifically trained in administering these anti-aging treatments.

Both these anti-aging solutions, when done properly, will have very impressive results. It really boils down to the hand that will apply it on you and good judgment.
