Freelance Graphic Designer: Put Your Creativity to Work
Napoleon Bonaparte said, “A Picture is worth a thousand words.” Although he was an illustrious mind, he definitely couldn’t have foreseen how well his words would adapt to today’s media. Living in the century of speed does not only mean that everything happens faster but it also means that every second is precious. Words need time to be read, understood, and acknowledged whereas a picture takes a split of a second to stick to your mind.
The role of the graphic artist in printed and electronic media is almost impossible to appreciate. Putting words in an image is not a simple job but putting the right words in the right image for the right audience is a great achievement. And, in reality, the underlying responsibility of the graphic artist is to submit information so that the message is both accessible and unforgettable.
Graphic artists may choose to embark on the road of freelancing and become freelance graphic designer. They may also choose to work for one of the many graphic design companies as a graphic artist. Irrespective of the path they choose in their career, they have chosen one of the most rewarding professions long before that.
By definition, the freelance graphic designer just like any other graphic artist compiles images or motion graphics in order to produce a piece of design. There are numerous cases in which graphic designers are also photographers employing their own pictures in the projects they undertake. The portrait photographer is considered to be an artist by profession. It is said that there are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer. Within that context, the portrait photographer is very close to the definition of a graphic artist.
The Internet is full of images. Without pictures, Internet would never have reached the scale that it has today. Although it can be said that the Internet is like a virtual library, imagine the dullness of a library without any images, not even covers, nothing but words. It is really unconceivable with the plethora of graphic designs floating in the World Wide Web.
Technology has also created the opportunity for many professionals to work as freelancers. The freelance graphic designer is one of the lucky ones who can put their creativity to work from the very comfort of their home office without wasting time and energy to travel or work in a stressful environment. Websites are created in a matter of hours and advertising campaigns are launched in days. People from all corners of the world work together surpassing the language barriers. The graphic artist is appreciated for what he or she is: an artist, a marketer, a communicator. Amazingly, the work of a graphic artist expands outside graphic design and entails understanding business goals and strategies. Just like a portrait photographer arranges light and angle depending on the subject, the freelance graphic designer joggles with images until they create the perfect puzzle. And, in a matter of seconds, a picture can be worth millions.
