Overview of the Formax FD 312 Paper Folding Machine
If you are shopping around for a folding machine that is basic and easy to set up, yet durable enough to survive the apocalypse, the Formax FD 312 may be the folding machine. This \”little engine that could\” has become a sleeper hit over the past few years with offices around the country. There are many reasons for this. I have personally used this machine and would like to share with you my own experiences and personal feelings regarding this paper folder.
Formax is best known for their folding and inserting machines (aka envelope stuffing machines). Considering their expertise in paper handling products, it only made sense that they would branch out into standard paper folding machines, paper shredders, bursters and other high-end and specialized office equipment. Formax now manufactures nine different paper folding machines, ranging from entry level machines up to industrial air suction feed paper folding machines.
When it comes to autofeed paper folding machines, the Formax FD 312 is Formax\’s least expensive model. While it is an entry-level machine (by Formax standards), it is a tough little machine. It looks like a cube with a feed tray and a folding plate poking out the sides. While it doesn\’t have the roundest corners and has a bit of an industrial look to it, it is made from high-quality materials. We have sold dozens of these machines and to put it simple, we don\’t hear back from customers that buy the FD 312. Customers receive them and love them.
Now that we have the exceptional build quality out of the way, I would like to cover exactly what this paper folding machine does. The FD 312 is a high-speed paper folding machine that comes with a motor that runs at a speed of 150 sheets per minute. That is more than two sheets per second. With an input capacity of 200 sheets, you can fold a thousand sheets in no time at all.
This is a friction-feed machine, which means it uses friction to pull paper into the machine. Because it uses friction, it is not the best machine to use with glossy or coated paper. While it may work, I recommend you send in samples for testing prior to purchasing it for use with that type of paper. As far as paper thickness goes, it is designed to work with 20# bond paper, which is basically copy paper. It will not work with card stock. It can be used with paper up to 8 1/2\” x14\” in size.
The FD 312 can be used to fold letter folds (C folds), accordion folds (Z folds), half folds V folds) and many more. Because it uses manually adjusted folding plates, custom folds are a piece of cake. Folds are clearly marked on the folding plates, making setup and operation extremely easy.
While the FD 312 may cost a little more than other entry-level folding machines, you need to keep in mind that the build quality on this machine is exceptional. Sure you can pay less for a machine that will last a year, but most people would rather invest a little more money for a machine that will hold up for years.
In conclusion, and having used this myself, I would recommend this folding machine for small business use. You will find the Formax FD 312 at ABCOffice.com.
