Proper Way of Fixing Potholes on Gravel Driveways

You can expect several changes on your surroundings after a bad weather especially on the outdoors. You can see areas that are damaged with the wind as well as with the constant pouring of the rain. In most cases, driveways such as those that are built on gravel and dirt materials are usually bombarded with various problems. Among these are potholes that can be quite unpleasant to the sight as well as when passed on by vehicles. In addition, they can ruin the even surface of the pathway which can also be the cause of automobile problems in the long run.

Fixing potholes on gravel driveways can be quite easy especially when all you need are wind rakes, shovels, and some amount of materials for filling up and patching purposes. Perfect timing is also required in order to achieve a successful and effective task. In most cases, potholes are commonly caused by the constant battering of water dropped from the sky through the form of rainfalls. These are inevitable circumstances that can’t be addressed or stopped. However, there are solutions that will prevent them from destroying the wonderfully made, gravel driveway.

– Trim Trees – although they provide shade and beautiful sceneries, trees can sometimes be the culprit of potholes. Water tends to drip on a single spot as they are caught on the leaves and branches of trees leaving a hole on the ground with every constant fall on the ground. Basically, the size of the hole would depend on the amount of water or any type of liquid that constantly falls and batters specific spots on the driveway. This can be solved though by regularly trimming the extending branches of the trees surrounding the pathway.

– Rake Driveway – use your wind rake to spread and even the surface of the gravel driveway. In most cases, a pothole tends to create a mound where the soil material gets out of shape. In order to make the surface even you need to spread the accumulated gravel and sand material all around the area using a rake or a similar device with the same function.

– Wheelbarrow and Shovel – in case it requires additional material as water have flushed the sand and gravel, you will need to add more to the pothole by using your shovel. A wheelbarrow is also an essential tool for carrying loads of stuffs with less effort on going back and forth for supplies. Make sure that you have enough materials to lessen your trip to the stock pile. Cover the spots that lack gravel by using the shovel.

– Tamper – the added gravel material on the holes should be tampered in order to get the actual condition of the driveway. You can either use the shovel for the tampering purpose or you can use wood to do this. Add more gravel on the potholes in case it still lacks the material to make the pathway into an even surface.

– Inspect – check out all of the areas that were fixed and make sure that they are properly taken care of to prevent such problems to take place in the future.
