With different types of crime committed against anyone in any country these days, learning how to protect your self has become very valuable. Modern technology has helped a lot in the creation of new gadgets that could be used by a civilian to protect him or her from any attackers. Among the most popular gadgets used for self defense these days are the stun and taser guns. For an average person, the difference between the two may be hard to spot that one may be labeled as the other and vice versa.

The main difference could be determined on how each are used. The tip of the stun gun must have direct contact with the attacker in order to be effective while the taser gun could be used from a distance. Both though have similar process used to temporarily disable a person. Electrical current or electric shock is utilized by both. Even though they have slight differences, both of them have identical purpose and both of them are valuable weapons used for self defense.

However, there may be instances that physical contact may not be avoided especially if you are already under attack. This is when weapons like the taser and the stun gun becomes useful. Both have the ability to disable a person and make room for a victim to escape an attacker. What is good here is that the use of both weapons is non-lethal.

Both the taser and the stun gun are very important weapons used not only by civilians but police officers too. Before, authorities may need to resort to shooting a person using a real gun to disable a criminal and it could be very fatal. Today, our police officers could now use a weapon that would just temporarily destabilize the criminal without causing permanent damage to the person. There are a lot of situations which these types of weapons could be very useful since not all the time a police officer should need to use a real gun and not all the time they can subdue a criminal using physical contact only.

Different models of taser and stun guns are now available in the market. There are models which could be used by a civilian while there are also ones which could only be used by police and military personnel. The use of these weapons or gadgets may vary in different countries though. There are countries which allow civilians to use these weapons, there are some which only allows officer use, while there are countries which do not allow their use regardless if you are a civilian or an officer of the law.

Even though taser and stun guns are very important, responsible ownership should still be observed. These are not toys so you should not play with it. It should only be used by someone who knows how to use it and only when necessary.
