Things to Remember Before You Tune in to an Online Radio Station
Traditional radio stations seem to be heading the same way as snail mail. For most people, especially those in the younger generation, handwritten letters mailed through a postal system are already a thing of the past – what with the existence of email, which makes communication faster and easier. In the same light, more and more people are choosing to listen to Internet radio stations instead of tuning in to terrestrial stations via a radio or a similar device. This is because online stations provide better sound quality, and the Internet offers users with more options – both in terms of the number of stations and the variety of music genres available.
That said, if you are interested in listening to a radio station on the Internet, there are several things you should take note of before you click on the “Play” button. Some of these are the following:
Do not run programs that slow down your PC. If there are too many applications open in your PC, or if the ones that are running are eating up your computer’s RAM, both your connection to the Internet and the speed of your PC will suffer. This can lead to you having a frustrating experience if you listen to online radio.
You should make it a point to update the media player you’re using. Any software is bound to have issues – such as bugs and compatibility problems – if it’s not updated regularly. This, in turn, can lead to problems with sound quality when you listen to streaming music via online stations. As such, make it a point to update the software you are using regularly. You can do this by purchasing a new program (in rare cases), or downloading an updated version of or a patch for your software found on the software developer’s website.
Always check your connection speed. Your Internet connection can affect sound quality when you tune in to radio stations online. If it’s too slow, chances are you won’t be able to listen at all. That said, make sure that you check the speed requirement of the stream you would like to listen to, and then see if your Internet connection can handle it.
If you have yet to try listening to radio stations on the Internet, listen to Hollywood 27 Alternative Radio to get a feel of things. Hollywood 27 is originally a film development and production company founded by Eric Battersby. Out of a desire to share the kind of music he likes with a wider audience, he established his own radio station under the same name via Live365 – an online radio network that enables its users to create their own stations and/or listen to those set up by other members. Hollywood 27 Alternative Radio mostly caters to individuals who prefer alternative and indie rock, but it also makes occasional forays into other genres such as pop, jazz, and blues. It featured the band The Black Keys in February, and now shines its spotlight on the band Cage the Elephant as its Featured Artist in March.
