Tourist Attractions in Singapore

Singapore is one of the smallest countries in the world with a population of about 5 million people tucked somewhere in South East Asia. According to one of its former Prime Minister, this little David is \”punching above its weight\” in the world of Goliaths.

The country has an excellent reputation for being efficient, well organized and safe and is a model of good governance and as such, it attracts people from all over the world to do business, invest and to work there.

This tiny nation\’s tourism industry is also growing by leaps and bounds and attracts about 12 million tourists a year. Why? As I take you on a guided virtual tour of the country\’s tourist attractions, the answer will become rather obvious.

Singapore is an interesting and colorful melting pot of people of many races, language, religion and cultures. As such, it offers a wide spectrum of exciting sights, sounds and tastes for visiting tourists and foreign guests.

If you love food, be prepared for your taste buds to be exposed to delicious culinary cuisines from all over the world. The reason being because of its multi-racial population, its close proximity with many countries and its accessibility, the diversity of food you can find in this country is wide and varied.

You will find food courts and restaurants offering foods of various diversities and tastes. If you like Chinese food, then you can savor the tastes from most provinces in China.

If you must eat halal food, then you can easily find Muslim cuisines from Malaysia, Indonesia, Lebanon and Turkey amongst other Muslim nations. Whatever it is, you will probably find some restaurants serving the food of wherever you may come from.

For lady visitors, you will love Orchard Road. This stretch of road is the country\’s main shopping district with so many delightful shopping malls that you can shop till you drop. Most if not all of the top fashion brands are represented here.

With the sheer numbers of entertainment outlets, party goers will be spoilt for choice. You can party till dawn in clubs like Zouk, St James Power House and Clarke Quay clubs to your neighborhood pubs or in exotic beach front bars.

If you think that Singapore is a city made up of bricks and concrete, think again. The government has gazetted belts of lushful greeneries for nature reserves. The more popular reserves are at Mandai Reserve, Labrador Park and Sentosa. More than that, some of these green lungs mentioned also have stories behind them besides being merely nature reserves.

For instance, the Labrador Park and Sentosa were former British military fortresses built to thwart Japanese advances from the sea during World War Two. The remnants of the fortresses are now preserved as tourists attractions.

There are also recreational parks in most public housing estates for the local population to enjoy nature. Most of these parks also have outdoor fitness facilities and jogging tracks for people exercise in.

The parks are built not just for recreational uses alone, but also as an encouragement to Singaporeans to exercise and lead a healthy lifestyle. Make a visit to these parks and you will encounter the local population doing their recreational activities such as fishing, line-dancing, tai chi and practising Muay Thai Kickboxing.

I insist that you pay a visit to the Jurong Bird Park, Mandai Zoo and the Night Safari. These animal and bird sanctuaries are well known throughout the world and you must visit them to find out first hand why that is so. Go and be astonished.

What about the art scene? Well, top international acts, concerts, plays and dramas from around the world are regularly performing in several venues. World class art exhibitions are also commonly featured.

Since this is a tropical island nation, you can soak in the sun, sea and sand at its many wonderful beaches. The more popular ones are at Changi, East Coast Park and Sentosa Island. However, try to avoid going to the beaches on weekends and public holidays as they will be very crowded with throngs of sun-seekers.

If you want to try your luck at the gambling tables, two magnificent casinos await you at The Marina Sands and Resorts World which the latter incidentally is also the home to the Universal Studio theme park where you can enjoy adventurous rides to scare yourself silly!

Now you know why such a small country like Singapore can attract so many tourists to visit its tourist attractions.
