Using Fusion Decor in Your Home

Many people have never considered using fusion decor in their homes, yet you can create many fabulous effects by fusing cultures, colors, decorative styles and even just by creating a fusion of the practical with the decorative. The best way to describe fusion decor is by example, so let\’s start with your kitchen – often a difficult room to decorate properly.

Fusion Decor: The Kitchen

Along with the bathroom, the kitchen is the most functional room in your home. Most go for functionality and forget that they also have a fabulous opportunity to be creative with the kitchen decor. For many people that is an oxymoron: \’kitchen decor,\’ and so they focus only floor and wall coverings when decorating their kitchen.

Here are some examples of how to use fusion to create a functional but decorative kitchen. You could start with something both decorative and functional: a hand-made pottery bowl, delicately crafted and hand painted leaves in shades of red. The bowl can be used for salads or fruit, or just to look nice. You can then fuse that with stark kitchen clock in black and white.

Every kitchen needs a clock since that is where many people spend a large amount of their time – even men, now that their women have got them better trained! A fusion of the intricate and simple would look good, so an American-made 16 inch square Epigram clock with a white face and the four main numbers and hands in black would be perfect.

In order to create a genuine fusion, you need a third item that matches and contrasts with the first two. So far we have a fusion of the old and the modern, and of the simple and the intricate, so a tapestry throw for a kitchen chair or the table would look good. In glowing reds and oranges, this matches perfectly with the bowl and contrasts with the clock. A fusion of styles, colors and even of the functional and the decorative!

Fusion Decor – The Hallway

You leave the kitchen and enter the hall. What goes well in a hallway? Perhaps a fusion of Italian and Moroccan or Moorish with a bit of the old world thrown into the mix would look good. Here is one such suggestion: the Venetians are famous for their vases, so a Venetian vase would be a good place to start.

Halls look good with a vase of flowers, or even just an empty decorative vase. Because not everybody has a spare table in their hall, an appropriate vase to start us off could be a 70 inch tall vase crafted from metal and painted with a beautiful reds, yellows and browns/black. This is real eye-catcher, and because it is in metal you needn\’t worry about it being knocked over. This has a long slender neck arising from an oval bottom.

To complement that, you could select a beautiful Moorish wall mirror, 31.5 inches high and almost 22 inches wide. Fashioned from wood and silvery metal, this is decorated with wooden camel bone stones, and painted in delicate brown and yellow tints. The mirror itself is decorated with arches as though you were looking through a Moroccan window.

Finally, you need the contrast which is a traditional steamer trunk set, in the form of four drawers finished with antique faux leather and opened using genuine riveted straps. Not only is this a practical form of storage in your hall, but it is also decorative. The entire effect is a fusion of the American, Italian and Moroccan, with a good match in colors and definite contrast in styles.

Fusion Decor – The Bedroom

Finally, we come to the bedroom. The major functional items in any bedroom are the bed and storage space. We can fuse these with a wall decoration for a real eye-catching effect.

For the bed, a simple duvet cover with pillow shams in black and white would be ideal. The black is present as a bold embroidered scroll on pure 100% Egyptian white cotton, providing a silky smooth set that is the epitome of luxury: you can easily find these or anything else you would prefer online.

For storage, you could choose a fusion of a traditional Ottoman, and a set of three trunks in a faux crocodile finish. You can find an Ottoman online that is finished in hammered brass with a soft upholstered leather style top. The trunk set looks magnificent, with a total height when stacked of 47 inches. This fuses perfectly with the Ottoman.

Finally, for the purely decorative element that every bedroom should have, you could fuse everything with a metallic wall sculpture of a single tree in three parts, each containing jewels highlighted against a yellowish-orange and blue autumn sky. Each part is 39 inches high by 14 inches wide.

This is a perfect fusion of styles and colors, and would provide you with a fabulous decorative effect in your bedroom, together with important extra storage space.
