When You Should Not Use Counselling Services?
There are many benefits that can come from counselling and this is why so many people go for it. Counselling can help you with many issues that you suffer from including anxiety, childhood issues and work related issues. Of course you can only reap the rewards of counselling if you are open for it.
Many people will think about using a counselling service at certain points in their lives. While counselling is a great service that can help solve many life issues, there are times when it will not help you. By knowing these situations, you can avoid spending tons of money on professional counselling sessions without getting any further with solving your problems.
When counselling services will not help you
Many people do not have any success when it comes to counselling services. The reason for this could be one of these:
– The person going for counselling is not open to the change the service will bring. Change is a natural part of counselling and if the person going is not open to it then they will not have any benefit from the service.
– The person is not willing to see that they have any problems. Before you even think about going for counselling you need to know and acknowledge that you have problems.
– When there is no trust between patient and counsellor. If you do not trust the person counselling you then you are not going to reveal much about yourself. This causes the counselling to be ineffective as the counsellor will not be able to find the root of your problem.
– When you lie. Many people lie to their counsellor and this gives the counsellor the wrong information making any conclusion they reach incorrect and unable to help you.
– The person going for counselling is not committed to long term improvement. While seeing a counsellor is a good step it is only the first of many. You will need to continue to work on yourself after you have seen the counsellor. If you do not do this then counselling will not work.
What to be sure of before you go for counselling
In order to make sure that you are not wasting not only your time but that of the counsellor you should know a few things before even contacting a counselling service. You should know that you are ready for change and have the will to try and help your counsellor change you. You will also need to be unafraid of having to reveal part of your life and self that you may not normally show. Only by seeing these parts of you can a counsellor help you.
Counselling is not for everyone even though many people believe it is. People who are not open to what this service can do will not receive any of the real benefits. It is important that you assess yourself and see if you are ready for the change that counselling will bring before you even phone the service.
